Imagine if you worked for years and years to craft something that was beautiful, heartfelt, and made millions of people happy, even years after you finished your project. Then imagine if someone sullied the love and joy-filled creation of yours by supporting something you were totally against.
Something that you felt was pure evil and responsible for murdering children and disrupting peace in our nation.
You’d probably be livid. That’s what happened to the Parks and Recreation cast and crew when they found out the National Rifle Association used a meme from the television show to support gun rights.
They were piiiiiiiiiiiissssssssseeeeedddd, to say the least, and had a few choice words for the NRA.
The NRA had just participated in CNN’s Town Hall where they went head-to-head with students who survived the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where 17 people were shot dead by a lone teen gunman who legally purchased his murder weapon.
The NRA posted a tweet after CNN’s Town Hall with a meme of Poheler’s Parks and Rec character, Leslie Knope, which showed Knope saying “Thank You.”
“.@DLoesch thank you for being the voice of over 5 Million #NRA members,” the tweet read.
The tweet thanked NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch who spoke at the event. Once word spread about the tweet the Parks and Recreation team started firing back.
“Hi, please take this down. I would prefer you not use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda,” tweeted Parks and Recreation co-creator Michael Schur, who goes by @KenTremendous on Twitter. “Also, Amy isn’t on twitter, but she texted me a message: “Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said fuck off?”
Poehler’s co-star Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson on the show, also took a jab at the NRA on social media.
“@NRA @DLoesch our good-hearted show and especially our Leslie Knope represent the opposite of your pro-slaughter agenda – take it down and also please eat shit,” his tweet said.
Adam Scott, who played Knope’s hubsand Ben Wyatt, also had a mouthful for the NRA.
“Hey @nra please stay the f*ck away from Leslie Knope,” he tweeted.
Yeah so, the Parks and Recreation team were NOT happy. At all. Whether you are for gun control or not, is anyone else wondering why a conservative organization would be using liberal media to promote their conservative agenda?
That just makes NO sense to me whatsoever.
It’s makes you think about who they have running the NRA. Regardless, they have not taken the tweet down.
