When a challenge is thrown, you rise to it.

Such was the case with the Norfolk Police department in Virginia as they danced their hearts out to Bruno Marsโ€™ โ€œUptown funkโ€.

Accepting the Corinth Police departmentโ€™s challenge to do a lip sync video, the men and women in uniform responded to their Texan counterparts with gusto. They recruited all available personnel in the station too. The departmentโ€™s public information division handled the choreography. Officer Christopher Taveras was chosen to be the lead man as he resembled Bruno Mars.

Call the police and the firemen

Spokesperson Cpl. William Pickering knew they had to do it too.

โ€œWe wanted to show the community our primary objective is to protect and serve the community, but we are not robots. We share a lot of the same interests the community has.โ€

Seems to have worked. Making their way from the office cubicles and through the corridors, the group grows in number as they smile and lip sync their way through the station.

Officer Christopher Taveras is the chosen lead for the challenge.

Taveras even enters a room where he signals to the guys behind the desks. They stand on cue holding orange cones using them as trumpets in sync to the music. Even the lady officers join in!

Thereโ€™s nothing complicated about the steps either. Just cops having fun, walking and dancing to the beat. Itโ€™s so natural to them they actually look like they could just hang out at a bar with anyone at anytime.

They really couldnโ€™t wait for their turn.

Taveras loves his role. He enters rooms and gets everyone dancing and singing along. They even use the blue and red lights as background effects. They go down to the garage where the motorcycles are being polished clean and at this point they all seem to have warmed up.

They sway from left to right and back rocking their hips to the funk. Sunglasses on with their uniforms on display, they really give their all dancing with the Norfolk plaque proudly showing on the wall.

Hot dang, did they call a fireman?

It must have been a sight for the passersby of the town. The police cars and trucks were arranged outside to be part of the shoot. Imagine walking by and seeing the cops in full force just having a great time.

They really wanted to catch everyoneโ€™s attention. Showing the locals that behind those uniforms are men and women who are just like them always ready for some fun.

Itโ€™s for patrolling Saturday nights so just watch.

Even the local fire department and medical response teams were in it. With over 28 million views on Facebook alone, these Norfolk cops must have been really proud of their efforts.

โ€œAs you can see, we all had a great time filming the video, which we have to point out was done in one take!โ€

And naturally, they forwarded the lip sync challenge to the other departments. Itโ€™s a viral trend now wherein the local police issue challenges to each other. Great way to take a break from the stress.

Norfolk has gotten the DC Police department in to doing the challenge.

You can bet this is one trend thatโ€™s not going away anytime soon.

Nothing wrong with having a little fun on duty. After all it cannot be all work and no play. They picked the perfect song too. Even Michelle Pfeiffer with that white gold would agree.
