Since first being introduced in the US, the Swing dance has evolved over the years. Today, it includes several different types of partner dances. They’re all entertaining and very energetic. Go ahead and do a quick search.
This isn’t a dance you see very often and while there are some clubs that focus on the Swing for people to enjoy, you’ll usually see couples kicking out the moves as part of dance competitions.
For an audience attending a competition called “Rock that Swing,” they were in for a real treat.
The event focused on dance styles from the 1920s through the 1950s. That meant Swing was part of the show. And among the many contestants, two people named Chanzie and Stephen stood out for all the right reasons.
The energy in the room was electrifying.
There’s something extraordinary about this style. It’s both old school and modern, mixing class and style with sultry smoothness. Chazie and Stephen take their place on stage as the crowd waits in anticipation.
They quickly make their way to the center looking as gorgeous as they always do.
This pair didn’t waste a second before getting into the action.
These two are one of the most popular Swing partners and you’ll see why. Not only was their footwork and hand gestures on point, but they continued smiling throughout the two and a half minutes they performed. They are true performers who love what they do.
Stepping to the beat
Every move was in perfect timing to the beat of the music. The “Nitty Gritty” is the song of choice which was sung by Shirley Ellis in the 1960s. Although this Big Band song was recorded in 1963, it was an excellent choice for their performance.
Back then, the catchy tune reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 Hits list. Chanzie and Stephen have the look, the moves, and the attitude!
Electrifying swing!
This duo was so good that people in the audience began snapping their fingers and clapping their hands. They are so infectious you can’t help but move and groove with them! I’m sure for some, it felt like stepping back in time. Chanzie and Stephen nailed every move and more!
They had their entire bodies going.
With their arms flailing, their feet stomping, and their heads bobbing, this was a fantastic performance reminiscent of the 1920s. The synchronization of their moves was outstanding. Keeping the dance spicy, Chanzie flipped her flowing dress up a few times.
She’s a beauty and he’s dashing. That makes for a wild combo on the floor.
Getting down and dirty with the nitty gritty.
The two do some sultry moves towards the end. Stephens flips and dips Chanzie with such ease that he makes it look easy. Swing is a high-energy dance so it takes some degree of athleticism and lots of strength.
