10 years ago, a star was born.
On December 2, 2007, back when YouTube was still emerging as an entertainment platform and the phrase “viral video” had yet to take on meaning, Nick Pitera uploaded a video of himself.
In the video, Nick introduces himself and announces he will be singing “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin.
“A Whole New World” is one of Disney’s more famous duets. Naturally, one would think Nick appearing by himself means he will only be singing Aladdin’s part – but oh were we all wrong.
At the one-minute mark in the video (1:00), Nick surprised millions of people when his voice shifted several octaves from Aladdin’s part of the song to Jasmine’s.
The video quickly went viral from Nick’s amazing vocal ability. Even to this day, viewers are stunned by Nick’s talent.
Nick’s talent landed him a slot on The Ellen Show, where he gave a live performance of “A Whole New World” to prove there was no post-production editing on his original video. Even Ellen humorously peeks behind Nick to see if there is a person singing Jasmine’s part for him behind the scenes.
(Forgive the quality, it was 2007 and a simpler time.)
Nick later returned to The Ellen Show one year later, where his performance earned a similar stunned but amazed reaction.
As you can see, there is a recurring theme of comments with videos featuring Nick. It’s amazing to think how 2017’s The Voice has replaced 2007’s American Idol as the famous singing competition for upcoming singers.

As it turns out, Nick, now 31 years old, still uploads regularly to YouTube. He shares new content on the first and third Friday of every month, with his most recent video titled, “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Medley – How Does A Moment Last Forever – Evermore – Nick Pitera”.
