We see a lot of military surprise videos online, but this story has a special twist. Natasha Daugherty found out that she was pregnant with her fourth child a week after her husband Chris was deployed with the U.S. Navy.

She felt that sharing the special news via email wouldn’t be special enough, so she decided to keep her pregnancy a secret.

“It was kind of unexpected,” Natasha told KTLA. “We didn’t think it was going to happen, and he was only home for a short time.”

Natasha had to take two pregnancy tests to convince herself it was true.

“I was excited about it and I emailed him and I told him to call me as soon as he gets a chance but then I thought about it for a few minutes and I was like, ‘You know, this isn’t how I want to tell him — in an email,'” Natasha told ABC News. “I emailed him back and said, ‘I just miss your voice.’ That’s when I decided I’m going to document it with weekly belly pictures for him so he wouldn’t miss it.”

Over the next two trimesters of her pregnancy, Natasha had to strategically hide her baby belly in photos, using people, props or emojis to hide conceal her pregnant belly.

She almost cracked and told him during a time when Chris’ ship was near the coast of North Korea and tensions were high between the two countries.

“I got emotional about it and I was wondering, ‘Should I tell him? Would I feel guilty if something happens and he doesn’t know?'” Natasha told KTLA. “I went back and forth about it.”

She held out and kept the secret until Chris came home. When he arrived off his ship she was holding up a sign over her belly.

When he approached her she lifted the sign to reveal her baby bump. He was completely shocked to say the very least.

“I can’t believe she was able to keep the secret for as long as she did because we tell each other everything so I know it was really hard for her,” Chris told ABC News. “I’m sure she wanted to just tell me but I’m really happy she waited because it was an awesome homecoming surprise and we got to find out the gender together the day after I got home.”

The couple is expecting a baby girl on Aug. 31. You can watch the adorable surprise in the video below.
