But things took a different turn last October.

From then on, Navar, Maia, and Navar’s family’s were devoted to getting Navar the best treatment they could find.

When they found out eventually that his condition has progressed to the point where there was no longer any available treatment to help him, Navar asked his family to take him to the mall.

He bought an engagement ring for Maia and proposed to her.

One week later, Maia walked down the aisle in an intimate backyard wedding ceremony with everyone close to them present. The guests also include his brother, Kohan Herbert, who flew in straight from his championship in Argentina to arrive that same day.

A true testament to what a great group of family and friends Navar and Maia had was witnessed during the wedding preparation and the wedding itself.

“Everybody just came together. We didn’t have to do a thing. In the space of three hours we had the yard decked out, we had flowers, outfits, someone brought Maia a ring for Navar. It was just amazing,” Vanessa Herbert, Navar’s mother, told news.com.au.

In the video, they showed Navar’s family and friends working together to get Navar dressed for this special occasion. They then escorted him to the backyard on his wheelchair to wait for Maia to walk down the aisle. Because of his condition, Navar had lost the ability to walk, so he needed assistance to get to his spot in front.

This spot was where he was able to get the best view of his fiancee and future wife, Maia, walking down the aisle, towards him.

When she reached him, he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her.

She reached down for his hand and Navar said, “Hello my wife, hello my baby. I love you.”

As the guests watched the couple exchange vows and swore to be “partners for life”, they fought back tears and kept themselves composed so they don’t miss a minute of the ceremony.

When they were declared partners for life by the officiant, the guests paid tribute to Navar and Maia and performed a moving haka for them.

On the day of the wedding, Navar already had a premonition.

He told his mother, Vanessa, that it would be his last day. His mom told him, “‘No it’s not because your brother’s coming home and you’re getting married at 4 pm.”

He did wait and got to marry the love of his life in front of their son, their families and their friends.
