When it comes to beauty trends, the nail art community comes up with the weirdest stuff.
Take for example succulent nails, cork board nails, or dining utensil extensions.
You could have a field day looking at all the hideously ugly and bizarre things people come up with. I mean some of these things are hard to even look at and evoke deep feelings of revulsion.
And the latest trend in nails is equally gruesome. Nail technicians are now offering the “ant farm nail.”
They’re basically turning nails into mini ant farms with live ants inside.
I can’t imagine that an ant would be able to stay alive in that container for long. So you’ll probably end up walking around with dead ants stuck inside your nails.
While most people would think this is just gross and stupid, others are actually pissed off.
They say the ant nail trend is “cruel” and “disgusting” for using live ants.
A video showing how Nail Sunny in Moscow, Russia creates the ant live was posted on Nail Sunny’s Instagram account which has more than 1.8 million followers.
Many people are calling the salon out for animal cruelty.
“Wtf is wrong with you? If they’re breathing or not they deserve to be free anyway,” one commenter wrote, according to BuzzFeed News. “Plus, who [on] earth would find this nice looking? Is just weird and sick!!”
“This is absolutely disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself. Any nail technicians I know would NEVER dream of doing anything as ridiculous as this. The poor ants suffer for no reason, the nails look horrid!” said another according to LAD Bible.
But the nail salon defended their invention of ant nail.
“The video’s caption reads: ‘no animals were harmed during the making of this video’ ants in the nails – YAY OR NAY? What happened with ants? Look the next video !!!!! They are breathing!!!!!”
In the next video, the tops of the nails are clipped off.
Ants are seen running free where the nail is believed to be clipped.
“The ants in @nail_sunny tutorial stayed alive! People do not go crazy. We are not animal killers, watch the video until the end, please. And I have a question for you: when you walk down the street and push the ants with shoes – are you not a killer??” their second post read.
Not sure they are comparing apples to apples but it doesn’t look like the ant nail trend will be catching on any time soon anyway.
