โThatโs stupid! EVERYONE in my class has that.โ
Itโs not always easy teaching kids the tough lessons in life, especially when they mean the world to you and you canโt stand to see them get hurt.
Although no parent wants to see their child cry, sometimes the lesson itself ends up being more important than the tears.
Thatโs the situation that mom Haley Hassell faced when she recently went on a โlong mom rant postโ on social media.
Itโs all because her daughter Presleigh set her off on a frenzy when she tossed a brand new pencil box into the trash!
Haley taught her daughter, Presleigh, a tough love lesson that day. When her daughter threw a brand new pencil box in the trash, this single mom lost it!
โI went to 3 different stores to get that LOL pencil box you see in the trash there. When I surprised her with it this afternoon (just knowing she would be ecstatic) she stared at it and threw it in the trash and slammed the bedroom door. She yelled โthatโs stupid, everyone in my class has that..I donโt want it anymore!'โ
Haley knew exactly what was happening, and wasnโt about to cave in to this spoiled first-graderโs demands.
โ..WHHHHAT STOP COME AGAIN? OK So by this time there was Probably smoke coming out of my ears and Iโm trying real hard not to completely lose it on this kid that I have worked so hard to completely take care of financially on my own & make sure she always gets what she needs and then some. โ
Haley thought she had been raising her daughter to be a grateful for everything they had. But, as all parents eventually come to know, not everything sinks in right away.
โI thought I had always taught her to be grateful & know how lucky she was but apparently sis needed a small wake up call!! SO before completely going Madea mad on my child I check myself and say, โokay thatโs fine, let me go get the one youโre going to useโโฆcame back with her new pencil box, which is the ziploc bag.โ
As you can imagine, that didnโt go over very well with Presleigh! But, mom Haley, who lives in Cantonment, Florida with her little girl, stood her ground.
โShe lost her mind! Suddenly the LOL Box she just trashed was good enough and the ziploc bag was horribleโฆbut itโs too late for all that. I told her to get the LOL out of the trash and we would be finding a child to give it to tomorrow..one whose mommy and daddies donโt have money for any school supplies or someone who may not even have a mommy or daddy.โ
Mom told her daughter that not everyone is as lucky as she is. Even a Ziploc bag could be considered a luxury to families who canโt afford it!
โI explained to her sheโs not entitled to anything special and she is taking for granted how lucky she isโฆ So for now she will be using a ziploc bag & will personally be delivering the nice box to a child that could benefit from it. Maybe I over react sometimes but I wouldโve done anything to have all the things she does as a child. I truly believe Changing your perception & just being grateful can turn around any situation in life.โ
Some parents may give into their childrenโs demands because they donโt want to see them cry or get upset. But entitled children grow up to be entitled adults, and thatโs the last thing that Haley wanted to see happen.

If more parents actually PARENTED and TAUGHT their children good behavior and morals maybe our world wouldnt be so chaotic.โ
