When you become a parent, your whole life and the way you view the world changes completely.

Parents, from the day they take this little creature home with them, become stressed, multi-tasking people who can’t take their eyes off their little ones for at least the next five years of their lives.

Is it too much or is it necessary?

Well, it seems that keeping your eyes on your children until they reach an age in which they are aware and can be held responsible for their actions is inevitable.

Yes, you should allow them to grow independently, but always be alert and keep an eye on them even if they don’t know it. Otherwise, they can be in trouble and you can get the scare of your life in just a matter of seconds.

Like the toddler who, in 2016, slipped his mother’s attention while at the zoo, and found himself in the gorilla’s enclosure. Unfortunately, the park’s staff had to kill the gorilla in order to protect the child, but activists have demanded that the child’s parents should be held responsible for Harambe’s death.

And this is only one of the- unfortunately- many cases in which lack of invigilation on the part of the parents has led to someone being hurt.

Is parenting easy? Hell, no! Is keeping your eyes on your children at all times easy? By no means! But parents should always make sure they are doing the best to keep their young children safe and close to them.

One mother from Texas had to learn this the hard way, when just for a split second her attention shifted from one daughter to the other.

A couple of years ago, Erica Dilley from Frisco, Texas, was returning home from a day out with her two daughters.

Dilley left her younger daughter in the stroller, safely tied, and went to open the garage door with her older one, Alexandra. The 3-year-old at the time apparently wanted to help her mom, so Erica lifted her so she could push the button and open the door.

Just when the busy mom thought everything was in place and going as planned, she turned to pick up her other daughter from her stroller. Before dealing with her, she turned her head one more time to make sure Alexandra was okay, and she was. This was just seconds before it all happened.

When Dilley finally picked up her younger daughter, she turned around, ready to get moving towards the garage, and then she saw it: Alexandra was hanging on the garage door, seven feet off the ground!

Dilley let out a cry and rushed to help her daughter! Luckily, Alexandra had not been hurt, but she was definitely in shock!

“It was more like a whimper, kind of like, ‘Should I laugh or be scared?’ and ‘Can someone get me down?’” she told Inside Edition.

The mother herself was confused and upset with the whole experience, while she kept thinking to herself that Alexandra was lucky to not have been hurt.

“It was one of those heart-in-your-throat moments, it could have ended very differently,” Dilley confessed. “I just grabbed her and went inside and called my husband and said, ‘You won’t believe what just happened.'”
