Christopher Hopkins, also known as The Makeover Guy, has built his career on providing dazzling, makeover transformations to mature women.
Despite being a household name featured on national programs like The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Today Show, very little is known about The Makeover Guy’s past.
A self-proclaimed entrepreneur, author, and media personality, Christopher was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to a stylish woman named Joann Hopkins. The family moved to Redwood Falls, where Christopher spent his childhood, before opening his first salon in the Hubbard Broadcasting building.
Throughout Christopher’s life, his mother Joann has always been a big support.
A diva at heart, she had always dreamt of living like a star. Unfortunately, out of necessity, she worked as a model, photographer assistant, personal shopper, and more— while still looking completely fabulous every day on the job.
When Christopher became successful, he hired Joann to do silhouette analyses at his salon. She became known as ‘The Wardrobe Woman’.
In a video, Joann says silhouette analysis consists of taking various body measurement and inputting the data into a computer for a body type analysis. Once they’ve determined a client’s specific type, they can then select outfits and styles that best suit their figure.
Knowing these things can make someone look slimmer and fitter— while also saving them cash by helping them avoid buying styles that won’t fit them well.
Joann says nobody has seen her natural, makeup-free face in over 50 years!
“I go through major surgery with my makeup on,” the 72-year-old diva told the camera. And apparently it isn’t just the public she’s worried about— she also doesn’t let her husband see her either!
“I don’t take my makeup off at night. Why do I want to go to bed with the person I love looking like Hell?”
“And I don’t go out for coffee without touching it up in the morning.”
Honestly, even at her age, Joann is downright gorgeous. So I really have trouble believing she hasn’t washed her face in 50 years. But, with her deep-rooted insecurity, it’s likely she just washes it off daily and reapplies before anyone can see her naked face.
When a woman wears makeup, people make snap judgments about her character.
It should come as no surprise that these judgments differ depending on their source. For example, a study published in the journal Perception says that men perceive women who wear makeup as being more prestigious, whereas other women may perceive her as being more dominant or promiscuous.
As the author cleverly noted, “Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but according to [this study], so are the roots of the assumptions that we make about a woman’s character— accurate or not.”
In this video, Joann removes her makeup for the camera— then puts total faith in Christopher as she undergoes a dazzling transformation.
The introduction to the video features a slideshow of childhood photos, showing Joann in all her feminine glory throughout the years. Then, it’s time for her interview. Before going in, Joann whips off a wig revealing a mop of flowing, grey hair.
“Kind of like the Wicked Witch of the West,” she laughs, turning to the camera.
Joann seems to hide natural beauty behind layers of cosmetics and wigs. Christopher shows her that she can look years younger by simply following his advice.
Since being uploaded to YouTube, Joann’s reveal has been viewed 4.4 million times.
People can’t believe how beautiful she is, even at 72 years of age!
“You mom’s a classic beauty. Even at her age, there’s something very elegant about her.”
“She’s so pretty! With and without makeup! And she’s rocking her new hair. I aspire to be her when I’m older.”
“She’s gorgeous. A total bombshell from day one.”
