Sleeping problems are maddening. No matter how much you want to lay down and get some rest, your body and mind seem to betray you. After a few nights of restless sleep, people often start dreading bedtime. This creates anxiety, and the cycle carries on.
Realistically, insomnia sucks for everyone, but this mother-son duo has discovered a way of battling it— while having some serious fun in the process!
Cue Lance and Lucy Stevens!
The mother-son duo from Louisiana is quite familiar with sleep problems. But, as the following video demonstrates, they’ve found a wonderful way to kick insomnia in the butt.
A few years ago, Lucy and her son Lane went completely viral after Lucy uploaded a video of them dancing in their kitchen. By all accounts, Lance and his daughter Stephanie had been staying the night with his mother. As the clock hit the later hours, they realized they were in no way, shape, or form tired enough to go to bed. That’s when the magic happened.
In the video, you see Lance and his mother clasp hands in the kitchen for an astonishing, impromptu dance routine.
In the video, as Meghan Trainor’s song “To My Future Husband” begins to play, Lance and his mother bust into some fancy footwork that has taken the world by storm.
Now, I’m not a dance expert, but according to reports, Lance and his mom seem to be dancing the Jitterbug.
The term “jitterbug” actually has surprisingly depressing origins, referring to the “jitters” an alcoholic will display after a few days of not drinking. In fact, Cab Calloway, who wrote the iconic song “Call of the Jitterbug”, even referenced the term’s origins in the original lyrics, singing:
“If you’d like to be a jitter bug,
First thing you must do is get a jug,
Put whiskey, wine, and gin within,
And shake it all up.”
Calloway’s song helped popularize the Jitterbug dance. And, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, it was later spread internationally by U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. As Lucy and Lance demonstrate, most jitterbug dances are performed with partners holding one or both hands. Generally, the style also encompasses freewheeling acrobatics and lifts. Wwhile the pair doesn’t take it this far, their flowing, sweeping movements are definitely reminiscent of the style.
As Lance and Lucy show off their moves, it’s clear the pair have likely been dancing together for years.
They move intuitively, completely in tune with the each other’s movements and steps. As they twirl and spin around the kitchen, Lance’s daughter Stephanie can’t tear her eyes away.
After the pair’s performance (and a good night’s sleep!), Lucy uploaded the video to Facebook, where it quickly went viral.
At the time of this writing (October 2.), it has amassed nearly 200,000 Facebook shares and millions upon millions of views. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Lucy and Lance. Their relationship is adorable, and their talent is out of this world. Comments on the video read:
