Having teenagers is tough. They are in their wildest and craziest years, and it’s only a matter of time before they face the world on their own. There’s only so much time for parents to take advantage of them living under their roof.
18-year-old Kaelyn Demmon’s mom likes to keep tabs on her daughter. Just like any other parent. But Kaelyn’s mom takes it a step further to verify her daughter is where she is supposed to be.
The 18-year-old’s mom demands selfies making specific gestures to make sure she’s telling the truth about her whereabouts.
Teenagers can be tricky and sneaky. Heather Steinkopf is Kaelyn’s mom, and she tries her best to keep up with all the new apps and sneaky ways to hide things from parents.
Heather knew that teens often keep a backlog of innocent looking photos at their friends’ houses just for occasions and “tests” like these. Knowing this — Heather had to get creative.
“Get on her back and take another selfie,” Kaelyn’s mom said via text. She was verifying that the pictures were in real time.
Sometimes Heather’s tactic works — one time she caught her daughter at a bonfire instead of at her friend Stevie’s house. Most of the time, however, she just does it to mess with her daughter.
“I knew she was where she said she was, but it was more fun to keep her doing different things,” Heather told BuzzfeedNews.
Kaelyn took to Twitter to share the hilarious texts from her mom and the photos that ensued.
But, of course, the first selfie wasn’t good enough. Try again, Kaelyn!
Sufficient for mom? Nope! She’s not satisfied yet. Heather starts to get a little more specific now. Let’s see if Kaelyn’s obliges.
Well played, Heather, well played. It looks like Kaelyn was with Stevie at her house after all. Even though she knew her daughter was safe, she had fun playing around with her daughter. She knows she’s a good girl.
After posting the photos, it spread like wildfire. It turns out that many people love Kaelyn’s mom, some having similar stories!

Kaelyn heads to college this fall, and we’re sure Heather will be asking for quite a few more selfies soon.
