Without a second thought, parents would tell you that they would put their children’s needs in front of their own. In an urgent or dangerous situation, a loving parent would easily risk their life to save the life of their child.

A woman named Dajauh Zhane Henix decided to make a sacrifice when rescuers came to save her and her baby from rising floodwaters in Houston.

The officer from the Harris County Police Department quickly drove off with the baby; Dajauh was thankful that her little girl was in safe hands. When another officer came to rescue her, she climbed in the boat but immediately became panicked.

The mother soon realized that she was going in one direction and her baby was heading another.

Even though Dajauh knew that her little girl was safe, she couldn’t help but worry — what mother wouldn’t? She had no idea how to find where her baby was taken, so she decided to take to social media.

Dajauh posted a plea on Instagram in hopes that someone knew where her little girl was located.

Little did Dajauh know — while she was looking for her baby girl, the officer who rescued her was looking for Dajauh!

Constable Christopher E. Diaz took to Facebook: “We are trying to find the mother to this baby. The mother was last seen wearing a purple shirt on South Lake Houston parkway.”

After both posts were put up on social media, hundreds of people worked together to get the mother and child reunited.

Once the mother and daughter were reunited, Constable Diaz posted once more saying:

“This mother did what any great parent would do. She realized how fast and deep the water current was…She put her baby’s life ahead of her own and asked for us to take the baby to higher ground. The baby was in great hands, and we made sure she was reunited with her Mother.”

The rescue efforts and amazing volunteers that have helped with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey are true heroes.

This reunion is living proof of compassion and humanity. Not to mention — the unconditional love of a mother.
