Traffic jams stink to be stuck in. Whether they’re caused by miles of backed up vehicles due to a wreck, a slow moving train crossing the road halting traffic or because of adverse weather, they’re just plain no fun at all.
One of the first things a motorist does is check to make sure he has enough gas to sit there and idle in park for who knows how long. The next thing is to glance at the time and panic over everything on her to-do list or worry about being late for her next stop.
Then, tap his or her fingers on the steering wheel and wonder what on earth to do to pass the time…
One can only scroll through Facebook and Instagram for so long before slowly growing bored sitting in the driver’s seat. Snapchat is fun for awhile with the silly filters.
So what else can a driver do when stuck in traffic?
How about crank the tunes, bust out some smooth moves and embarrass your kid in the passenger seat at the same time?
Wendy Chupp Gossett was traveling from Denver to Pueblo with her 16-year-old son Nathan. There was a terrible snowstorm sweeping through the area that stalled traffic on the interstate for hours. They became trapped in traffic.
“We were having the worst day ever!”
With nowhere to go, trapped in their vehicle, and virtually every subject discussed and analyzed between the two of them, their quality time was starting to wear each other out.
So when the Backstreet Boys came on the radio, Wendy took the chance to show Nathan just what fantastic dance moves his mom still had.
She first began car dancing as Nathan covered his ears and then she took it one step further. Backstreet Boys hit song “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) broke out in 1997, long before Nathan was even born but he knew it.
“Everybody rock your body. Everybody rock your body right. Backstreet’s back alright.”
Wendy took the lyrics seriously and let the power of the music move her right on out of her car. She threw open the car door and hopped out in the middle of a snowstorm right there on the interstate and began shakin’ her thang.
Nathan was instantly mortified.
“In my brain, I was trying to block it all out.”
Wendy shook off some pent-up energy and had a blast at the same time. She and Nathan had been sitting there for almost five hours and it felt good to let go if only for the length of a song.
Her impromptu dance session was the perfect way to pass the time even if she ending up caught on camera going viral.
Footage showed her shimmying between the stuck vehicles and jamming out around her car.
A Jesus figurine bobblehead danced around on the dashboard and Wendy can be seen through the windshield past it, clapping and dancing past the cars in front of hers.
The best part is how hard Wendy is laughing at the end as she peers in the window to check out Nathan’s reaction.
Watch Wendy’s fantastic performance in the video below. It’s awesome!
