We’ve all got that friend whose mom never seems to leave them alone. Or, hey, maybe you are that mom – no judgment here.
Moms have a habit of expecting their kids to be available 24-hours a day, regardless of work, sleep, and other pressing responsibilities. Kids, on the other hand, never seem to answer their phones – which is strange, when you think about it, because people under a certain age seem to be glued to their devices.
We can see it from both sides, which is what makes this story so amusing.
Maria is one California-based mom who had to resort to particularly inventive ways to get hold of her son.
She had been trying to get in touch with him on a matter of utmost importance: she was hosting a taco night, and she wanted him to be there.
Typical of most sons, Maria’s son never answered her calls. So what did she do? She got clever, that’s what.
Maria’s son and daughter had bought her a Ring doorbell camera to make sure she was safe at home.
Maria knew how the doorbell worked – if the camera gave an alert to someone at the door, her son and daughter would be notified.
While Maria’s son hadn’t answered her calls, she assumed that he’d feel more of a sense of urgency to check out her ring alert.
And voila: he’d receive Maria’s taco night message – no phone tag needed.
In the video, which was posted on Ring’s YouTube page, Maria can be seen standing on her own front porch, speaking directly into the camera.
She says:
“We’re having taco night. So, if you’d like to eat, you just come over, and you’re welcome to get it. You hear me? I called and you didn’t answer because I think you’re busy, but anyway, we are having taco night. Goodbye.”
Message delivered, Maria walks away from the camera with the air of a president stepping off the podium after an important speech.
The video is pretty hilarious, but it’s also really sweet.
It shows what an effort Maria makes with her son. Let’s hope he takes her up on her offer – cherishing every moment with your loved ones is so important.
Studies have even found that hanging out with your nearest and dearest can have a positive effect on your health. In one study, it was noticed that stress, happiness, and well-being levels were more impacted by our social circle than our fitness levels.
Moms might seem a little pushy sometimes, but it’s only because they love us dearly.
And if you’re a mom of grown-up children yourself, you’ll know that all too well. While you can respect that your children have their own lives, you still love getting to see them whenever you can.
If you have your own Ring camera that’s monitored by your children, maybe you should follow in Maria’s footsteps – this could be a great new method of communication!
Maria’s recorded Ring message has currently been viewed more than 500,000 times.
Hopefully this means that, even if her son wasn’t able to come to taco night, she’s got plenty of willing volunteers.
