Every parent thinks their child is special, but one mother knows for certain that her little girl is like no other. This little girl was born at a massive size, and her mom just can’t get enough of her.
Chrissy Corbitt is from Orange City, Florida. She was already a mother of three when she got pregnant with her most recent child. She suspected that this newborn might be bigger than normal, but she had no idea how big.
Each of Chrissy’s children had been born larger than the average size of a baby. They each weighed around 9 or 10 pounds, while the average American newborn weighs in at 7.5 pounds. Still, this mom was absolutely shocked when she saw her daughter for the first time.
Carleigh Brooke Corbitt weighed a whopping 13 pounds, 5 ounces at birth. She was almost twice the size of a typical baby! Chrissy couldn’t believe her eyes.
“When the pediatrician showed her to me across the curtain, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s huge,’” she told Inside Edition. “I couldn’t believe it. It was like I delivered a toddler.”
Chrissy wasn’t the only one who had anxiously awaited the arrival of her baby. Everyone in the room had their attention locked on the delivering mom. When she finally pushed her little one out, she received an unexpected applause.
“I heard everybody cheering in the operating room,” Chrissy recalled. “I’ve never had that happen before.”
Of course, this was only the beginning of a long list of firsts for the family. Baby Carleigh was so big, she couldn’t fit in the baby clothes her parents had purchased for her. It was the same story with the diapers. The Corbitt parents had prepared tirelessly for their little girl’s arrival, but now that she was here they had to do it all over again.
“All the stuff we bought leading up to her being born, we just donated to a local church,” Chrissy’s husband Larry joked. Even in the midst of total confusion, this family found a way to help others in need.
As Carleigh grew, she remained much larger than children her own size. At only three weeks old, she was already fitting into baby clothes meant for a 9-month-old! She is definitely going to be one tall girl.
Aside from her abnormal weight, this baby was born totally healthy. She slept soundly as her parents welcomed her into the world.
“She’s just a happy baby, she smiles all the time,” Chrissy observed. “I can’t get enough of her.”
Chrissy and Larry cherish their children with all their hearts, but they are relieved to say that Carleigh will always be their youngest. “We went out with a bang,” said Larry. “This is our last kid. My wife had her tubes tied, so this is going to be it for us.”
The couple might be done with child bearing, but they certainly have their work cut out for them. With this little girl’s large size, she will be able to reach high places and cause mischief a lot sooner than her siblings. Parenting Carleigh is sure to be a long and rewarding adventure.
Parents often tell their children that they are special, and no one can deny that Carleigh is unique. This girl is fortunate to grow up in a family full of so much love.
