Matt and Lisa live on 16 acres of gorgeous land. They could have built any type of house, or should we say mansion, that they wanted. Matt runs a bathroom and kitchen renovation company, so he was able to create the house of their dreams with the help of friends and his own hands.
Matt and Lisa’s dream house was built on their land, but their dream house was a tiny house on wheels.
Matt and Lisa’s house is only nine meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The fully black exterior gives a modern vibe, as does the décor inside. Matt was originally not a fan of tiny houses, but Lisa has been for a long time.
Lisa admits, “I’ve been obsessed for a while watching reality TV shows about tiny houses. Googling them Instagram Facebook … Sort of wanted to build one or at least buy one at some stage and then I met Matt.”
After much convincing, Lisa was able to get Matt to build the tiny home of her dreams.
Matt said, “Yeah, she really just wouldn’t shut up about these tiny houses and I really hadn’t seen much about them… But she’s showing me all these Instagram accounts and I thought I didn’t really think much of it at the time …. Yeah, once I’ve been – it seemed achievable, you know, and I do like a challenge so I thought I’d give it a go.”
Matt and Lisa both love to watch television and hang out in their living room, so they made sure to make a full-size sofa. Their sofa is also an extra place for storage too, so they have two drawers under the sofa for extra storage. Originally, Matt wanted to bring his television but it proved to be too large.
The couple compromised with a smaller television, but in relation to the size of their living room it is still quite large!
When it came to the creation of their kitchen, the couple came from very two different backgrounds. Matt lived in a house with a very big kitchen, but Lisa’s previous kitchen was tiny in size. Matt wanted to make sure they had a decent size kitchen in their tiny home. Their tiny kitchen was able to fit a full size oven, microwave, and storage for pots and pans.
The stairs that are located in the kitchen also hold storage in every step for all extra kitchen supplies! A great use of every space.
The bathroom is located past the kitchen. The bathroom is a standard bathroom but is beautifully designed. Since Matt renovates bathrooms for a living he wanted to challenge himself with its design. In such a small space he was able to create a double shower, toilet and sink with a vanity.
The addition of all the mirrors in the bathroom makes the room seem larger than it is.
The couple’s bedroom is located in the upstairs loft. The stairs opens up to a small pathway that leads straight to the bed. Their clothing drawers are located downstairs between the kitchen and bathroom, so the loft is solely for their bed.
Only one bar divides their bed from the lower level, hopefully they do not move a lot when they sleep!
While the couple live in their dream tiny home, they knew their two cats might not have had the same dream. So, Matt came up with an amazing solution. Their small cat door leads to an enclosed cat outside area. Matt wanted their cats to stay safe in the wild outdoors but still have a lot of space to explore.
Matt and Lisa’s cats have a bigger home than they do!
