Depending on where you are in the world, and it could be any of the four seasons, one thing is always certain. Kids and teenagers dread going back to school. Some don’t. Most do. But for those who look at the bright side of things, it only means one thing. Homecoming week!
It’s a tradition where students are welcomed back to the campus with a ton of activities and events. Sporting games, dance, pep-assembly, and so on make up the festivities helping break the dreaded feeling of going back.
Based on NCES data, there were around 26,986 high schools in the United States so imagine the Homecoming events that took place. Sounds like a party.
Make no mistake about it, schools go through great lengths for these events and a lot of students actively participate. It’s the one chance to impress people at the beginning of the school year which could make or break a person’s impressions of the place.
This cheerleading squad took the game to a whole new level raising the bar with this Homecoming performance. It was such a smashing success that even the internet took notice.
The MIHS cheer squad rocked their homecoming with a stunning performance that drew the excited reactions from the audience.
They file into the gym, hands behind their backs walking in a straight line, almost military like in their precision and you can feel the tension in the place. The students watching can barely contain their excitement. Hype.
Count them. That’s a lot of cheerleaders. They assemble like a platoon, shuffling their feet while they’re at it, and at this point you can see they’re wearing gloves that perfectly match their spotless uniforms.
Once the music fills the air, the girls kneel down and starting from the front, pop up in to a wave-like sequence with both hands punching up into the air. They face all four directions and fall backwards like stacked dominos drawing a bunch of “Woah!” comments from the crowd.
Now this is cheer dancing with synchronized movements unlike any you’ve ever seen.
They get back up and walk outwards in all directions forming something like an asterisk. Falling on their knees and slowly back down, they lay on their backs and from the girls in the center radiating to the perimeter, they raise their arms and legs in alternating fashion along to the beat creating an illusion mesmerizing to watch.
That’s not even the best part.
The girls form two lines on the floor again and then grab each other’s hands. Here they begin turning their bodies in unison, sliding on the floor in the same direction all at then same time. You can hear someone go,
“What is that?!”
That’s a really cool way of raising the students’ spirits.
That was among the many “ooh”s and “aah”s of course. After the many breathtaking sequences, the ladies stand up and start dancing, this time executing a flash of dazzling arm movements almost futuristic and robotic in nature.
The maroon and white uniforms give off a striking contrast to their movements, adding an illusion to their already jaw-dropping moves. Looks like all those back to school jitters are gone by this point.
