It is easy to argue that music is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. It has the power to completely make or break a listener. It can completely change someone’s mood and possibly their whole entire life.
Some music, more specifically, can make you feel like you are being sent straight to heaven. Soothing voices of all different ranges and tones, beautiful harmonies, and of course, the song itself are all important factors that come into play.
There is just something about hearing a handful of people singing in unison and working together to blend beautiful harmonies.
There is also something so haunting about a hymn. Listening to it is so magical, it can almost make you feel like your spirit is lifting out of your body!
Just earlier this year, the Colorado All State Tenor/Bass Choir made an appearance at a hotel and filled the halls with their voices. They performed a Cherubic hymn that was so strong and beautiful, it will definitely send chills down your spine.
A clip of the performance — which is 5 minutes-long — was uploaded to YouTube by Ben Poulsen. Its viewership quickly escalated, reaching over 127,000 views and hundreds of comments.
“The people sleeping [in the hotel] might have thought they died and went to heaven,” one viewer commented on the video. “I get excited to think of how incredible the singing will be in heaven when I’ve heard such breathtaking singing on earth,” another person said hilariously. The comments section is basically flooding with nothing but love and enthusiasm for the mens’ performance.
The room and the choir are a perfect match.
The choir is gathered around the halls, spanning across several different floors. Because they seem to be in a very spacious room that stretches far up, the acoustics are incredible. In fact, it almost feels like that room was made especially for choirs to sing in.
All of the mens’ voices are blending together and covered in a naturally-occurring reverb.
Even if you are unfamiliar with the hymn, the performance will give you a sense of hope. There is something incredibly soothing about the performance. It is powerful enough to make you believe that good does, in fact, exist in the world.
Especially because the world is currently experiencing such a strange moment in time, this clip is especially needed. It is an important reminder that beauty exists and that maybe there is a glimmer of hope for the future.
When our minds are feeling so troubled and cluttered, this performance offers us some clarity, maybe even some mental stability. It re-centers us and reminds us of the good things that we have to look forward to, even when everything feels so temporarily unclear.
