Many artists work on canvases or sketchbooks in the comfort of their own homes and studios. For others, the world is their canvas. They see things we just can’t see, blessed with innate abilities to visualize something as simple as a blank wall or piece of concrete in ways we can’t imagine. Odeith is one of those people.

Odeith is the name of a Portuguese street artist and master of illusion.

With nothing but cans of spray paint, he can turn bland, boring surfaces into incredible works of art, creating depth and 3D objects on flat walls and blocks of cement.

What do you see in the image below? Nothing but a block of cement? Well, Odeith sees things differently. He sees potential and possibilities in the strangest places, and in this case, when looking at this simple structure, he saw a bus.

It took three days of hard work and a whole lot of spray paint to bring the bus to life, but the results are simply staggering.

The level of detail Odeith manages to put into his work is amazing! He gives so much depth and life to those flat walls, and it really looks you could reach through the windows of his broken-down, abandoned bus.

This isn’t the first or the only time Odeith has looked at seemingly basic structures and surfaces and turned them into artistic masterpieces.

This Lisbon-based artist, whose full name is Sergio Odeith, has had spray cans in his hands since the 1980s.

Born in 1976 in Damaia, Odeith has created countless works all across Portugal, including large-scale murals and many of his ‘optical illusion’ graffiti-style pieces. He’s even made murals for big brands like Coca Cola and Samsung, with his work being featured in museums and galleries far and wide.

This is one of his most impressive pieces, as he paints over some boring, basic graffiti with a realistic, 3D skull model.

One of the most impressive aspects of his work is the accurate illusion of 3D depth he can put into a flat surface.

He’s got a real eye for angles and detail, and it takes several days for him to sketch out and complete these kinds of pieces, but the results are always flawless!

Many of his big-scale graffiti illusions focus on gigantic animals and creepy crawlies, like this terrifying super spider!

Other pieces, meanwhile, are more abstract in their design, like this futuristic form which seems to be leaping off the walls but is actually totally flat.
