Marching bands are typically pretty traditional musical groups. There are several different groups that play the necessary instruments: drums, percussion, horns, etc. They usually take place at a sports game or other event that needs to lift some spirits.
But this marching band, in particular, is a little bit different from the rest.
Video of the Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band performing “Sing Sing Sing” made waves on the Internet when it was uploaded in August 2016 and that is because they are a little different from the regular marching bands that we know and love.
This marching band proves to be special.
Made up of around 50 members and dressed all in orange and black, the players took the stage a few years back and completely nailed it. Because they were so interesting, the video gained so much traction and reached over a million views.
So, what makes this band so special?
What differentiates this band from the rest is that they dance… And they dance really well.
First, they start out in a pose and we aren’t exactly sure what is about to happen next. Then, suddenly they break out into dance and almost act like they are cheerleaders while still seamlessly playing their instruments.
Each member throws kicks in perfect unison with an insanely high amount of energy. They shuffle back and forth, switching places, and seem completely unphased the entire time. It is clear that they must have rehearsed this maybe a hundred times!
The crowd clearly loves the performance too, as they are nonstop cheering the entire time.
They throw in some twirls and high knees and at some points they break up into groups. First, one group will dance while the other plays and then they will switch. But no matter what, the group that is playing their instruments plays with such energy. And the dancers nail each and every move too, making it seem completely effortless.
Only 20 seconds in and they have already proved just how talented they are.
Throughout the performance, they shuffle over and over again and switch places with each other. However, none of them ever get confused and they all understand where each person belongs.
Halfway through the performance and they are throwing out intricate steps and kicks, all while playing the music as a regular marching band would.
They are clearly having so much fun with it as well.
Towards the end, they all swirl around and completely change up their spots, yet they still handle it with grace! It is obvious that so much time and effort has gone into this show and it has really paid off.
“I remember getting insanely winded and out of breath in marching band after our halftime show,” one person wrote in a comment. “Idk how these girls can dance around so hard while playing without dying. It’s very impressive.”
