How do you decide who gets the last chip in the bag or the last chocolate in the box? It’s okay if you live alone and can gobble everything up by yourself, but when you have a partner or roommate, these seemingly simple moments can turn into major dilemmas!

We all want to eat the last tasty snack, but we know that we have to be polite and offer it to someone else first, and there’s always a bit of guilt associated with eating the very last one of something.

This is especially true at the moment, as the whole coronavirus crisis means that certain food items are in short supply and grocery shopping isn’t as easy. Even something as simple as a Dorito suddenly feels so much more valuable, as this story shows.

The tale begins with actor Chuck McCarthy and his girlfriend. They got to the last Dorito in the bag and couldn’t decide who got to eat it, so decided on a compromise: neither of them would eat the Dorito.

Instead, they decided to keep it under a glass bowl as a symbol of their commitment, and Chuck shared a photo of it on Imgur.

He also revealed that he was secretly planning to eat the Dorito without his girlfriend knowing by making an exact replica. A few days later, a new Imgur thread arrived, telling the whole story of what happened next.

We’re not sure if you’ve ever tried, but making a fake Dorito is apparently a pretty big job!

Chuck started out by getting some wet toilet paper and sculpting the basic Dorito triangle shape, mixing in some glue and yellow watercolor paint to make it look more realistic.

Next, he placed the fake chip in the toaster oven to let it dry out and harden.

After that, he added a little more color and glue and cleverly let the chip dry a second time while curled around an old pen in order to give it that classic ‘wavy’ shape we all know and love.

At that point, he had a fake Dorito in the right shape and more or less the right color too, but it still didn’t look realistic without any kind of seasoning on top.

If you’re an experienced Doritos eater, you’ll know that Cool Ranch chips always have little red and green specks on the sides.

Chuck wasn’t quite sure how to recreate those specks. At first, he cut open the original bag of Doritos that he fished from the trash and tried to stick some of the seasoning onto his fake chip, but it just wasn’t working.

Since his first plan wasn’t working out, he turned to Plan B: paint.

Very carefully and painstakingly, he used a simple needle and some dots of paint to add red and green specks onto the chip.

It must have taken quite a while, but the results were pretty impressive.

This photo shows how Chuck’s fake Dorito compares with the real thing.

We have to say, it took a lot of effort, but he did a pretty impressive job! And only one thing could come next…

Waiting until his girlfriend was in the bath, Chuck switched out the real chip and replaced it with his fake one, chowing down on that satisfying crunch for himself without his girlfriend being any the wiser.

Of course, if she happens to find his Imgur thread or reads this story, she’ll know exactly what happened! Still, it was probably worth it all in the end for Chuck, and let’s hope he and his girlfriend can buy another bag of Doritos sometime soon.
