Can you imagine driving 10,000 miles, using two months of your life, and doing the same dance routine hundreds of times to capture the perfect video?
Thatโs what Matt Bray of ProjectOneLife set out with a dream to do. After choreographing a dance routine to JR JRโs โGoneโ, he took the road trip of a lifetime. The two-month-long project brought him to places all around North America. Wherever he stopped, he filmed himself performing the dance routine with other people.
They were friends and family as well as strangers.
The filming took place everywhere from peopleโs own living rooms to desert roads, train tracks, crowded beaches, and lakeside docks.
The video also captured snapshots into the lives of everyone who was dancing. Even if they were only featured for a few seconds, they sent a message about who they were, especially as they added their own moves to the routine. One woman performed the routine in her wedding dress. An elderly lady twirled a baton with professional skill.
โI got to dance with a lot of interesting people, including 11 pilots from China,โ said Bray in an accompanying video that documented the making of 100 People of Dance.
Bray went everywhere from San Diego to Indiana to Saskatchewan to dance with the people of that city. People were ready and willing to help him out. He even interrupted a dance class in Saskatchewan to ask if they would dance with him. Of course, they were willing to jive with him along the street.
In fulfilling this dream, Bray met hundreds of people and battled extreme weather, including hail and temperatures of 122 degrees.
He also got to do some amazing things. These included jet skiing, drag racing, and even taking a flight with a pilot.
โDancing across the country was an incredible experience,โ he said. โI got to meet a lot of amazing people, dance with a crap ton of complete strangers, and I even left America for my very first time.โ
ProjectOneLife is Brayโs YouTube channel that documents him crossing things off his bucket list.
In the past, he has done incredible things. Some of them are typical activities that everyone wants to do before they die, like jump off a cliff or crash a wedding. But he also uses it as an opportunity to do good. Bray crossed items off his list like donating blood and making charitable donations.
It all started when he was in college and filmed himself doing the dance from โNapoleon Dynamiteโ 120 days in a row.
When he was done, Bray edited the clips together in one cohesive video.
But โ100 People of Danceโ isnโt the only group dance video heโs done. Since then, Bray did both โ1000 People of Danceโ and โ100 Places of Dance.โ
Now, he has gone even further than ever before.
Filming โ100 Peopleโ brought him out of the country for the first time. Now, heโs filming in Paris, Tokyo, and even Australia.
โIf you ever meet someone who doesnโt know what they want to do with their life or what kind of career they want, they should write a bucket list and go after it,โ said Bray. โI believe it is the best way to figure out what they enjoy and experience it firsthand.โ
His dream came together in a most beautiful way that you will enjoy every second of!
