When a man and woman decide to marry, they aren’t just creating a union between the two of them … they’re marrying each other’s family, too. When Tim Morris started wooing Caroline Mitchell, the Nashville, Tenn., couple took things slow and got to know each other’s close friends and family members.
That meant Caroline personally introduced Tim to her brother Chad. She was a little worried, because Chad meant the world to her and she wanted her two favorite guys to get along perfectly.
Thankfully, Caroline’s protective brother Chad, who has Down syndrome, thought Tim was pretty cool. In fact, they have two very important things in common that quickly bound them together.
“Chad and I share a very special and unique bond, one that is forged in Elvis and Batman, two of our favorite things. He doesn’t let me forget that at all.”
Tim and Caroline dated for some time, falling deeply and madly in love. When the time felt right, Tim proposed marriage to Caroline.
Chad proposed at The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville to a surprised Caroline who looked stunning in a red dress. The shocked look on her face was priceless, but it wasn’t the only surprise in store for this family.
They chatted about a suitable date, a location, colors, flowers and who would be in their wedding party. Tim knew instantly who he wanted to be a groomsman. So he hatched a plan to make a second proposal.
While enjoying a family dinner at Caroline’s parents’ home, Tim combined Chad’s love of Batman with cookies and a handwritten message that he could absorb. He wrote out his groomsman proposal on a Batman-themed card and had a container fo those favorite cookies on hand.
Caroline recorded this absolutely beautiful moment between her beloved brother and future hubby, and it’s since gone viral.
“I am so happy I have gained you as a brother. Our wedding wouldn’t be complete without you. Will you be my groomsman?”
Chad couldn’t believe what Tim was asking him. He punched the air and threw his arms around his future brother-in-law, signaling his agreement to serve as a groomsman.
Caroline said watching this heartwarming scene unfold was “one of my favorite moments ever.”
“It meant so much to me. Chad and I are very close and just to see his reaction and his love towards Tim, and the way that Tim loves and accepts him back it’s just… the pinnacle of their relationship.”
Tim wasn’t sure how Chad would respond and hoped deep down inside that his buddy would be excited.
“When he finally kinda understood what was going on and just threw his arms open and gave me a big ole bear hug and had a hint of emotion going on, it just made my day. I just loved seeing him be happy because I got to be part of that.”
