Elaine Dolfo and her family were going through a very tough time.

The eight-year-old girl’s father, Jerry, had recently gotten sick. Because of that, he had to take time off work as a tricycle taxi driver. Unfortunately, the family then weren’t able to pay the rent on their house. They were evicted, and Elaine, her parents, and her three-year-old sister were forced to sleep on the streets of Manila during monsoon season.

Elaine didn’t have a roof over her head, but the intelligent little girl didn’t let that stop her from doing her homework.

As Elaine diligently worked, a man named Rolando Villanueva stopped and asked her what she was doing. She said she was doing her homework. She explained that she wanted to be at the top of her class so she could get a good job, make her teacher proud, and help her family. Rolando was touched by the little girl’s story, and he shot a quick video of Elaine at work.

The video quickly went viral, receiving thousands of views.

Rolando was amazed by Elaine’s intelligence and work ethic:

“Little Elaine will succeed in life. I am sure,” Rolando told The Daily Mail. “She is so determined and very bright. She has lost her home and has nowhere comfortable but she still made it a priority to do her homework. It is very inspirational.”

A woman named Marlene Garcia was also amazed by Elaine’s story. She started a GoFundMe page to help the little girl and her family.

“In hope of helping I set up this Gofundme page for little Elaine,” Garcia wrote on the GoFundMe page. “A kind person Miguel has been able to contact the school and a teacher who teaches there for help and to also help oversee the funds being given to the family.”

The GoFundMe page quickly raised thousands of dollars. Elaine and her family used the money to rent a big, beautiful new apartment. They’re also going to use the money to pay for Elaine and her sister’s schooling and a new tricycle so her dad can start working again after he recovers from his illness.
