Maybe you’re not a cat person, but animal lovers will appreciate this story nevertheless.
And it shows that you never really know just who (or what) you are going to fall in love with.
Maybe, deep down, you’re a cat person after all – in the right circumstances.
An Imgur user posted photos of a very small kitten he discovered.
A surprise in the yard
Small is a bit of an overstatement – minuscule is more like it.
Not only was the kitten a newborn, but it seemed to have been abandoned by its mother.
“Found this little one in my back yard in a hole under the fence. She was the runt and the mom abandoned her after moving the litter. Tore up the rock wall to get her out after hearing her crying,” said the kitten’s rescuer.
Kittens usually open their eyes 7-10 days after birth, but the man who found this little creature said she didn’t open her eyes for 10 days!
Saving a life
Newborn kittens are exceptionally vulnerable and rely on their mothers for everything, including defecation.
That’s a lot of responsibility (and mess) for a human to take on, but this rescuer was determined to help her survive.
“I woke up/came home every 2.5 hrs to bottle feed and warm her bed,” he said.
Then, on day 11, he was rewarded with a sweet stare from the tiny kitten that had bonded with him.
Best friends forever
It should come as no surprise they this kind man kept the kitten and that they’re best friends now.
And it sounds like she’s pretty attached, especially after her dad comes home after being away for a bit.
“She always pays special attention to me when I get back from a work trip.”
Oddly enough, this new cat owner had never even wanted a pet.
But it seems his furry soul mate found and adopted him instead.
“She ended up being a very pretty and very loving cat. I never wanted a pet but I’m glad I have her.”
A sweet “Baby”
Those who enjoyed the photos were eager to know more about the cat, including her name. We imagine her small stature is what inspired the name “Baby,” even if she did grow up to be a regular-sized (and beautiful) cat.
And she’s quite a lovebug too – there are plenty of pics of the two cuddled up close that are sure to warm your heart.
No one puts Baby in the corner
Baby’s dad has posted updates about her well-being on Imgur since the original photo dump, including some sad news a year later. Baby is blind.
“We found out this year that her ocular nerves had degenerated and she is almost completely blind. More than likely due to her being the runt of the littler and some malnutrition as a kitten.”
Luckily, this sweet feline has a loving home and has adapted just fine to her disability.
“She has the place memorized though so as long as I don’t move any furniture or put anything in her way, she still runs around and jumps on the furniture and whatnot.”
These two were lucky to find one another!
