Who says you have to be rich to give, or for that matter, to even be comfortable? One man has stolen our hearts in the best possible way when he gave the few bucks he had in his name to a mother and son due who needed money to catch the bus home. His generosity was witnessed by Fernando Herrera, who shared the story with the world.
According to Herrera, he was in a Hook’s Wings establishment when he noticed a man who was clearly down on his luck being approached by a mother-son duo. The man, it appeared, was about to order the first warm meal he had had in a while with what little money he had to his name. However, when the mother explained that she and her son needed bus fare to get home, the kind gentleman decided to forego his meal and give his money to the couple.
Herrera, who watched the entire exchange, was bowled over by the gentleman’s kindness and generosity. Most people who have money to spare would have politely declined, but this man, who clearly didn’t have a lot to spare, didn’t. He used what he could to help others.
Herrera, inspired by the man, decided to purchase him the warm meal he went into Hook’s for to begin with. When he first made the offer, the man refused, but eventually, he gave in. For Herrera, the meal was about thanking the man for showing him that money doesn’t mean anything if you cannot help others with it. “In tears he thanks me and hugged me,” Herrera shared in his Facebook post.
In a world where it seems like everything we hear on the news is bad news, and where greed and selfishness seem to overrule kindness and generosity, this story is heartwarming and refreshing. Most of all though, it inspires hope. Hope for a better future in which more people are as kind as the gentleman who gave his last dollar to help two people who appeared to be in more need than he was.
