When you agree to live with someone, you are essentially agreeing to live with all of their interesting little quirks and living habits — whether you like it or not. Of course, if you are naturally a clean and organized person, the other person will be lucking out. But it can become frustrating when you are constantly picking up after other people.
It can be an especially awkward situation when the other person you are living with is a loved one. If you are living with your husband and he is doing something that is irking you (without having no idea, of course) it can be a sticky situation.
You don’t want to continue living with his icky habits, but you also don’t want to hurt his feelings.
Caitlin Fladager recently submitted a story about this to Love What Matters and what she does and how she explains her side of the story is pretty amazing and impressive.
Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, Fladager married her high school sweetheart. They have a wonderful relationship, but there is one thing that stands out in their day-to-day life.
As soon as he would come home from work, there it was: his clothing everywhere. But there’s a little twist — Fladager doesn’t actually mind it. In fact, her reaction is the opposite.
“My husband can never put his clothes IN the dirty laundry basket. They’re always on the floor. And it makes me appreciate him even more,” she wrote.
She went on to write about how she saw another post that addressed a similar situation, stating that men aren’t capable of putting their clothing where it belong. At first, the wife agreed! She too, thought of it as a very annoying habit. But then she began to think about it more.
My husband came home from work, played with our children a little, asked what was for dinner, if I needed anything, then went to take a shower. Ten minutes later, I walk past the laundry basket, right where our washroom also is. And I see it. The thing that would usually make me yell through the shower door. The thing that has annoyed me for so long. But this time, I see something different.
This time when she looks at the clothing, she notices they are drenched in dirt and sweat. It is at this moment that she realizes just how hard her husband works every day. The clothing is living proof.
”So, I looked at those dirty clothes on the floor, that I once would have started a fight over, and I picked them up, put them in the basket, and walked away,” she said.
She continued: “When he got out of the shower, he noticed his dirty shoes and clothes were no longer there, and that I hadn’t said anything. And he thanked me. Which he had never done before, probably because I was too quick to start an argument about it.”
”He said, ‘Thank you for putting that away. I had a long day.’”
The woman went on to explain that she saw her husband in a whole new light that day — it just took her some time to finally come to that point.
This man is so lucky to have such a patient and understanding wife!
