It may seem funny how humans are so much larger than spiders, yet they can be so afraid of them.

But after you hear about one man’s story, it might help you to understand why.

The 60-year-old pensioner was suffering from some ear discomfort and what sounded like a beating drum.

“I felt discomfort in my ear while sleeping last night but I tried to ignore it. This morning the discomfort was still there. There were noises like something was beating a drum,” the man said, according to The Sun.

The man suspected an insect might be inside his ear and reported to an outpatient clinic.

He was seen by ear, nose, and throat specialist Dr.Cui Shulin of the Dalian Center Hospital.

Shulin was shocked by what he found inside the man’s ear during an endoscope.

It was a live bean-sized spider. The spider had reportedly started to spin elaborate webs about two inches deep inside the ear canal to protect itself. There is even video of the spider spinning inside his ear.

“This old man showed up at our outpatient clinic today saying he thought there was insect in his ear. I performed an endoscopy and found a spider. The thing had spun webs,” adding a laughing emoji.

Thankfully the doctor was able to simply remove the side. He flushed the spider out by spraying the patient’s ear canal with water. The man did not suffer any injuries during his arachnid freeloading situation.

Shulin said that he has rarely seen spiders spinning webs and living in a person’s ear.

What’s more common is flying inspects like ladybirds or cockroaches in people’s ears.

A woman reported to a Chinese hospital in 2012 after a spider decided to move into her ear canal. She just thought her ear was itchy, according to the International Business Times.

The woman believes the spider ended up in her ear after she slept in her home during renovations.

Those who think that have an insect in their ear shouldn’t try to remove it.

This is because it might try to sting or bite.

The National Library of Medicine suggests turning your head to see if it will crawl out. If it doesn’t pour mineral, olive or baby oil in your ear while pulling the earlobe backward and upward to suffocate the bug and float it out with oil.
