Most people believe in magic. Even if they haven’t really experienced it in real life, they just can’t stop hoping. So when Paul Zerdin and his puppet performed in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, everyone got so excited.
Paul came on stage with Sam, his cheeky puppet.
Sam has this habit of annoying Paul and it was obvious right from the start. From the moment Paul introduced their act, Sam was repeating everything he was saying. Eventually, the puppet stopped and they were able to do a formal greeting to the judges.
However, Sam started annoying Paul again. So, to move on with their performance, he figured that putting Sam inside a suitcase would be a good idea.
But he was wrong.
Sam continued to irritate and embarrass Paul. For every joke, Sam has something negative to say to Paul. It was like the puppet always had the final word in everything.
Frustrated and fed up, he asked what his puppet really want.
Just like every kid, Sam has one wish. He shared one of his biggest dreams and that is to turn into a real boy. Paul brushed off the idea and told Sam that such magic couldn’t possibly happen. They’ve talked about it and there’s nothing they can do about it.
He was a puppet and he could never become a little boy.
Just then, the lights flickered and something seemed off.
Then, Sam said:
“Paul, I think you got to look.”
The judges were caught off-guard when they saw the suitcase moved. After a while, it opened itself and there was Sam. He turned into a real boy!
To everyone’s amusement, Sam walked out of the suitcase and went to the other side of the stage.
The judges were on their feet and the audience just couldn’t believe their eyes. It was magic and it happened right before their eyes.
Paul Zerdin is a well-known ventriloquist and comedian. He started playing with puppets at the age of 10 after a family friend made him one, After failing school, he decided to get a job in one magic shop where he was able to develop his talents.
Paul first auditioned for America’s Got Talent in 2015.
With his puppet Sam, he easily got the “yes” he needed to get to the Judge Cuts round. His performance with the same puppet during the finals allowed him to finish in the first place and win 1 million dollars and a residency show in Las Vegas.
Paul appeared on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions along with the past winners of the show. The list included Paul Potts, Cristina Ramos, The Fire, Jai McDowall, and Alexa Lauenburger.
Despite delivering an excellent performance, however, Paul failed to move further into the competition. He was eliminated in week 2 after falling 2nd in the audience vote.
Even if they didn’t get to the finals, Paul and Sam surely tickled people’s imagination that night, particularly those who strongly believe in magic.
