Imagine having to worry about you and your family’s well-being every single time it rained. That was what Joana Wiley’s life was like before a stranger lent her a helping hand.

Wiley tried to fix the leak in her roof that was right over her 3-year-old’s bed, but she ended up making her situation worse.

She had a terrible fall from her ladder after trying to fix the roof, which left her with a traumatic brain injury.

Doctors in the hospital found out that she also had thyroid cancer. With no money for repairs and nowhere to turn, Wiley took to Facebook and did what most of us dread doing. She had to ask for help.

“That’s all I’m asking for is a safe place for me and my family to live,” she said crying on camera.

Despite her heart-wrenching plea, no one responded to the video. That’s until Edward Aguado, of Edwards Roofing and Repair, came knocking at her door six months later.

“I was like, who is this Ed, what does he want,” Wiley explained to FOX2Now. “At first I thought it was a scam. Too good to be true.”

However, this was no scam. Just one individual doing something kind for a complete stranger.

“I’m getting a roof,” Wiley said. “I can’t believe it!”

Aguado said a friend had told him about the video and went to work on Wiley’s home soon thereafter.

“She’s literally sitting in there watching water pour into her daughter’s room. So me and my sales guy Matt, we came up there, boarded it up, tarped it, and 3 days later I had a new roof on her house,” Aguado said.

He’s not exaggerating. Whenever it would rain Wiley said she would scramble to grab a pot, pan, or whatever else she had to collect the falling water.

He installed a 40-year roof worth $9,000 to $10,000 on her home for free with Lowe’s discounting some materials and a company called Certainteed supplying the roof shingles.

“I want to thank you. A handshake’s not right,” she said hugging Aguado and fighting back tears. “Seriously, not worrying about it raining.”

Aguado said he was glad that he was able to help Wiley and her family.

“It makes it 100% worth it,” he said. “I was in a position where I could help and I wanted to help. It was really as simple as that.”

Now Wiley was free to concentrate on her health, which was important because she had an upcoming hospital stay. Instead of focusing on the weather she could focus on herself and her family thanks to Aguado’s selfless act.
