Well here’s something you don’t see everyday, or at least on the dance floor.
You know how we’re all used to seeing ballroom dancing between two people, right? Because that’s the established norm. Grab a partner and dance. It’s a guy and girl thing and a dance is always fun. But how about a guy, a girl, and another girl?
That’s right. Gary and Charlotte Chaney are here to dance the Jitterbug set to “Me and Bobby McGee” by Rhonda McDaniel.
Gary and Charlotte Chaney have been dancing together for most of their lives and are members of the South Side Imperial Dance Club since 1980. Gary has been President and Vice President over a lot of years of being active in the Board of Directors.
They are both true ambassadors of dancing and have competed all over the country taking home wins and awards.
They are both dressed to impress and that reception says it all. Who wouldn’t want to dance the night away looking like stars? All eyes are on them.
The Jitterbug dance was made popular in the 30s and 40s with its origins in the United States. The original version had a lot of acrobatic swings and lifts which now have been modified for a more conservative ballroom version.
That doesn’t stop Gary and Charlotte though. Look at those legs move!
That is unbelievably good footwork and there is so much bounce in them that the song seems to come alive. They don’t shy away from a few hip shakes and ridiculous spins. Charlotte even lets Gary dip her less than a foot from the floor. That’s trusting someone you’ve known for many years.
Well after a few awesome steps together that’s gotten the crowd all worked up, here comes… A twin? A double? Wait a minute…
Dressed exactly like Charlotte, from the hair down to the shoes is Debbie Wheelis. She runs out to join them and look at Gary’s face. What a guy! He proceeds to dance with both Debbie and Charlotte at the same time.
He steps to and spins with both ladies and even has alternating sequences with each. And not one missed a single step. These three are so effortless and captivating to watch and you can see the onlookers smiling and enjoying the music and the dance.
Only a guy as cool as Gary could pull this off. These three are pulling off a combination of East and West Coast, Jitterbug, and Bop and they are fabulous to watch. Look at those smiles!
With nearly 15.5 million views it’s not difficult to see why they have many admirers. Even viewers are impressed.
“One of the cleverest pieces of choreography I’ve ever seen! Well done guys :)”
And here’s an even cooler comment:
“Wow, being a Salsa Dancer and a lover of Dance this was really nice especially the part when he begins dancing with the 2 ladies… Wonderful, it just goes to show you are never to old to dance and enjoying yourselves as they appear to be doing here. Hey what about that reality show for dancers they should go and audition….”
That’s not a bad idea. Gary, Charlotte, and Debbie could win one of those.
Do you think they’re having fun?
