When you get an alert of a stranger in your home, the first thing to do is to call the police. Then, if the suspect runs away, the next procedure is to check the evidence and the CCTV.
With the use of CCTV (commonly known as video surveillance), many crimes have been prevented and solved.
What is uncommon is to see a suspected lawnmower thief mowing the lawn of his victims before taking the machine.
That’s exactly what this video shows.
It sounds like a joke or something you find in a funny movie.
But this is as real as it gets.
The police team in Port Arthur, Texas, saw the CCTV footage on April 1, 2022, and released it to the public.
They were searching for a man for breaking in and stealing a homeowner’s lawnmower.
But there’s a twist.
The CCTV shows a man mowing the front lawn at around 8:00 pm, on a Friday. According to the authorities, they later identified the man as Marcus Hubbard.
In the CCTV footage, they saw Hubbard entering the residence that night. He went straight to the backyard and took the lawnmower without the owner’s permission.
You’d think he would already run away, but he didn’t.
This surprised everyone. Instead of leaving with the lawnmower, Hubbard started mowing the front and backyard of the owner’s property.
He didn’t slack, either.
He was thorough with what he was doing and he took his time. Is this some type of a practical joke? Maybe, he’s just doing this because it was April Fool’s day?
Then the cops showed up.
Hubbard stopped when he saw that the police had arrived. He ran from the authorities while dragging the lawnmower behind him.
Later that evening, they found the lawnmower abandoned in an alley, which made the whole situation weirder.
Many people gave their own speculations about the weird event that happened that day.
Opinions abound
Most of the people who saw the video thought of this incident as funny, and even saw Hubbard as a good worker, if given a chance to have a decent job.
The police reminded everyone that Hubbard already has an outstanding warrant for burglary of a building.
They also asked the public to come forward if ever they have any information about Hubbard’s whereabouts.
Funny as it seems, the authorities still warned the public about the incident. It was still a burglary, and they asked everyone to be extra careful.
The footage received different comments.
One person said that a homeowner should know when their lawn is a mess when the thief mows their lawn before leaving.
Bad choices but great work ethic.
Another person said that Hubbard did exemplary work, and if given a chance, he would be a good employee.
Then, another person said that it seemed like Hubbard needed help and that sometimes, it brings more harm to jail someone who’s already broken.
What do you think about this intriguing footage? Is it funny or alarming?
