Compassion goes a long way in this world. We need so much more of it this day in age — and it’s not only human to human compassion that’s so important, it should span between species. One photograph is going viral because of one man’s compassion toward a cow.
Some people may think that animals don’t have feelings but we’d have to disagree. We find stories time and time again of animals of many species showing a range of emotion — anything from sadness and grief to elation and gratitude.
If there’s anyone in the world that could tell you animals most certainly have feelings — it’s a man named Benjamin Tipps.
Tipps and his wife were visiting his family to celebrate Mother’s Day. His family lived out in the country with quite a bit of farmland. Fields sprawled in every direction.
As Tipps was passing by one of the fields, he noticed a cow — but something just wasn’t quite right. He decided to get closer and investigate to make sure everything was okay.
The cow was actually in labor and she was having a very difficult time. She’d been in labor for several days.
Tipps realized what was happening and decided to keep his distance and watch from afar. All of the sudden, the cow collapsed to the ground. He immediately rushed to check on the pregnant cow. Something was very wrong.
As soon as he reached the cow’s side, he was struck with sadness. The calf’s sac had ended up bursting during labor — the baby cow was stillborn. It was a heartbreaking scene to witness — the sadness could be felt in the air.
The mother cow realized that she had lost her baby and became completely overwhelmed and distressed.
She became unwilling to move. Completely overcome with grief, she just lay motionless on the ground. Tipps was overwhelmed with emotion himself and felt the need to comfort the cow the best way he possibly could. His empathy is nothing short of admirable.
Tipps decided to lay down next to the grieving mother and keep her company during this sad time. His wife, Kayla, watched the entire thing unfold from a distance. She was moved by her husband’s empathy and compassion.
His wife took a picture of this powerful and heartbreaking moment; she posted in online in hopes to spread the kindness that her husband showed that day.
