If you have ever had a package stolen off your front step, you know just how frustrating it is. Something that was there for you, on your property, is suddenly gone in a stranger’s hands because they thought it was theirs to take. You have the right to be mad! It’s not a great thing, but it does, unfortunately, happen every day.
This man was getting a lot of package thieves on his property and he was sick of it, so he decided to do something about it. After spending way too much of his time wondering where all of his packages were going, Jaireme Barrow came up with a plan.
Barrow was living in a house that looked out on the street, so he decided to install a security camera. After that, he noticed that several people were coming in from the street, working up the nerve to climb up to his front porch.
He discovered that it wasn’t just one thief, but several different people were actually coming to steal packages, acting like they were fully entitled to the cardboard boxes.
So after noticing this, Barrow decided he wanted to get some good old fashioned revenge on all of these package thieves. While we don’t necessarily condone doing this at home, we do think what he did is pretty fascinating to watch.
To get revenge, he decided to “invent” TheBlankBox. This would keep your package secure when strangers go to reach for it — now doesn’t that sound nice?
First, he placed the dummy box on his front porch. He placed it so that everyone can see it from the street, surely where there would be lots of temptation.
From the outside, it looks like a regular cardboard box. On the inside, though, there is a 12-gauge shotgun blank.
The blanks can actually hurt people but Barrow still assures that it is safe for the user and the targets. Pretty much all it does is sets off a bang loud enough to scare whoever is reaching for the box off. After they experience this on your property, they will never come back (which is obviously what we want!).
The Tacoma police department has said that, while the Blank Box may look illegal, there are no open cases against it.
When footage dropped on the Internet, a lot of people were peeved about how many package thieves there were. Everyone was in agreement that stealing was not okay. They also decided to share some other ideas that would help scare package thieves away for good.
“There is another way for homeowners to create instant karma for package thieves. They should set up a trap within the box which looks like any other parcel on the outside — a stink bomb which sets off when the package is moved. As the thief flees, the fetid fluid embeds in their clothing and on their skin. The goal of the homeowner is to teach those to leave what isn’t theirs alone,” someone shared via Rumble.
Even though it apparently doesn’t hurt anyone, we don’t necessarily recommend trying this yourself at home. It does make for a pretty entertaining video though, and we are happy that this man is finally getting the justice he deserves!
