If you have a pet, there’s a good chance you find yourself chatting with them regularly.
Whether it’s giving them updates on your day, asking them rhetorical questions, or simply telling them how cute they are, pets have a way of pulling words out of us.
But have you ever stopped to wonder what they would say if they could talk back?
What kind of conversations would we have?
Andrew Grantham, the creative mind behind the popular YouTube channel “Talking Animals,” took this idea to a whole new level.
His hilarious videos give animals a voice, and the results are nothing short of genius.
The concept is simple—he takes home videos of pets and dubs over them, imagining what they might be thinking or saying.
His videos have attracted millions of viewers, all eager to hear what their furry friends might sound like if they had the chance to talk.
One of Grantham’s most iconic videos, “What Cats Are Really Thinking,” plays with the idea of how pets, particularly cats, feel about the way we baby talk to them.
The description says it all: “How our pets really feel about the ridiculous ways we talk to them.”
Anyone with a pet can probably relate—sometimes, we just can’t help using a high-pitched, exaggerated voice around our beloved animals.
But what if they could respond?
In the video, a cat is spotted lounging on a kitchen chair, enjoying a peaceful nap.
His owner comes in, immediately greeting him with an exaggerated “Hi Kitty!” in a tone that’s unmistakably baby talk.
Instead of the cat merely purring or ignoring the greeting as most cats would, he talks back. His response?
A casual, laid-back “Hey, what’s up. What’s going on?”
It’s exactly the kind of cool, indifferent attitude you’d expect from a cat.
But the interaction doesn’t stop there.
The owner, undeterred, keeps piling on the baby talk, asking, “Were you having a nap? And what did my kitty do today?”
The cat, unfazed, responds with a nonchalant, “Nothing much,” as if he’s already over the conversation.
But the owner, in typical human fashion, continues with his playful interrogation, and the cat’s responses stay consistently cool—just what you’d expect from a creature that’s a master of aloofness.
It’s well known that cats are independent animals.
They often give off an air of mystery, and while they can be affectionate, they’re also experts at playing it cool.
Unlike dogs, who might wag their tails and show joy at every interaction, cats tend to keep their feelings a bit more hidden.
They might purr, they might rub against your leg, but they won’t always wear their hearts on their sleeves—if they had sleeves, of course.
As the video continues, the owner ramps up the baby talk, asking, “Who’s my kitty?” much to the cat’s growing frustration.
You can almost see the eye-roll coming from the feline as he reluctantly admits, “I am…”
The owner pushes even further, cooing “Who’s my sweet little white fluffy little ball?”
It’s at this point the cat can’t hold back his dismay any longer and drops a hilarious line: “You better not put this on YouTube…”
The video has struck a chord with audiences all over the world, racking up over 13 million views.
Viewers can’t get enough.
One person commented, “This video never stops being awesome,” while another wrote, “LOL! Hilarious! I love these talking animal videos!”
Clearly, the combination of adorable pets and spot-on voice acting is a winning recipe for laughter.
