Woody Allen said, “The heart wants what it wants. There’s no logic to these things.”
In other words, love doesn’t have to be reasonable, and it can make people do crazy things. For tattoo artist Vinny Capaldo, love meant getting a really, really risky tattoo.
It all started when Vinny asked his girlfriend, Brooke Wodark, to tattoo him. He had a trick up his sleeve.
They talked about it and settled on a simple heart design on his ankle. Brooke was nervous; Vinny was already heavily inked, but the heart would be the first design she had ever tattooed on him or anyone for that matter.
“This is terrifying,” she laughed, as she traced the heart’s shape in pen before she brought out the machine. “I’m shaking right now. I’m shaking!”
A friend peaked over Vinny’s shoulder to see the design.
“That’s going to be so tight,” he assured her.
She finished the design and looked up at Vinny for directions.
“Put your gloves on, and a paper towel to wipe,” he instructed her patiently.
“Right,” she nodded. She smiled at the camera nervously as she wriggled her hands into some plastic gloves.
“I’m like, sweating,” she laughed again.
She picked up the tattoo machine and pressed her foot down on the pedal to give it a test buzz. Just before she started, Vinny rolled up his shorts to reveal a new tattoo that Brooke hadn’t seen yet.
“Shut up!” she said, in shock. “Are you lying?”
Right on cue, someone stepped behind Brooke and handed Vinny a small jewelry box. He popped the lid, revealing a beautiful wedding ring.
“Yay!” Brooke said, laughing and crying and fanning herself.
“I’m not going to look,” said Vinny, smiling. “You just check one.”
With two quick buzzes, Brooke tattooed a neat red cross into the “Yes” box. She laughed and put down the tattoo gun briefly to wipe her eyes before she stood up to hug and kiss her new fiance.
Brooke and Vinny are happily engaged, and their engagement video has gone viral. It has over 13,000,000 views and hundreds of comments.
Having ridden out their 15 minutes of fame, Vinny and Brooke can look forward to a lifetime with the one they love.
Moral of the story: love is crazy, and it can happen anywhere. Even in tattoo parlors.
