Energy drinks are on the rise and are a huge part of many people’s diets. I can’t count how many times my mother has told me “quit drinking those energy drinks!” After seeing this, I might actually start to listen!
This is a harrowing story of one husband and his brush with death that left him permanently disfigured, all while he had a baby on the way. You’ll never believe how this common energy drink almost took this young father’s life and left him with a huge hole in his head.
Austin had been drinking energy drinks to sustain himself during long workdays. He was working more hours because his wife was pregnant. Then the unthinkable happened.
Brianna and Austin were a happily married couple that was expecting a baby. As a soon to be father, Austin stepped up and did the right thing by taking on more work to support his growings family.
What his wife Brianna and Austin didn’t know was the long work hours would almost kill him. It wasn’t the work itself, it was the number of energy drinks Austin was drinking to have the energy for the work. One morning Brianna’s mother-in-law called her and told her that Austin was in the hospital, he had a brain hemorrhage from all the energy drinks and it wasn’t looking good. The doctors were working to save Austin but were unsure if he’d survive.
When Brianna got to the hospital, she had no idea whether her husband would live or die.
After being rushed to the emergency room Austin is near death from a brain hemorrhage. When describing that fateful day Brianna said:
“After a two hour drive to the hospital, I learned that my husband, the father of my child, the person I am so deeply in love with, had had a brain hemorrhage. Why? The doctors concluded (after running his tox screen and ruling out drugs) that this horrible event was due to his recent excessive energy drink consumption (a habit he had built when he started working longer hours and commuting).
Surgery was already in motion… and after an agonizing 5 hour wait, we got to see him. But while everyone was focused on the almost unrecognizable face hooked up to all sorts of machines and tubes, all I could see was his parents. I saw the light leave his mother’s eyes as she saw her motionless son laying in that hospital bed. I saw his father break down crying as he held onto his wife.”
Austin survived and they had a healthy baby boy. The young couple has stuck together through it all.
After many surgeries and months in the hospital, Austin was able to come home to his family. There is still a long road ahead and life is nothing like it used to be, with countless doctors visits and daily physical therapy they’re just taking it one day at a time.
Be careful if you drink energy drinks, they’re extremely bad for you and can be deadly!
