Writing a will can be stressful.

Some people would want to go to an estate planning attorney to make sure that their unique circumstances in terms of estate legal affairs are in order.

However, there are still a group of folks who are either cheap, Do-It-Yourselfers, or for some other reason, refuse to check with one.

It’s all about formality and details.

As long as you follow the formality rules, you should be able to write a simple will.

Rabalais mentioned the Olographic Will, or Handwritten Will, as the best example and this is permitted in Louisiana.

They are as valid as the typed-up, notarized ones.

To show how simple it is, he used an example of a man who wants to leave his estate to his wife when he dies.

But he also wants to add that if his wife dies before him, the estate will be equally divided between his two children.

Since one of them is more responsible, he/she will be the executor if he dies and his wife has pre-deceased him.

As we said, cover every detail.

He started with the date.

In the video, Rabalais first wrote the date at the top, then proceeded with the details.

He wrote that if he dies, he will leave all his property to his wife.

He then added if his wife dies before him, the property is equally distributed to their two children.

Given the circumstance that one of his children dies before him, the property that could have been for his child will be passed along to his/her children in equal parts.

He concluded his Will by stating the executors and then signing.

It’s all about the wording.

The key to a valid Olographic Will is the wording.

He demonstrated that each of the circumstances should be addressed.

And since every circumstance is unique, his sample Will may not be applicable to some.

But in general, the idea of creating a simple Will can be beneficial and easy, especially if the person making it is not that rich with only a few properties owned.
