Wedding receptions aren’t just for mingling, eating, and sitting through the usual program: cake cutting, the first dance, wine tasting. For some newlyweds, it’s the perfect opportunity to be creative. This is the time when relatives, friends, and members of the wedding entourage can cook up something fun and fresh for the couple and the guests to enjoy.
Some put together funny video presentations, some come up with incredible choreography for a dance number, while some even sing. Basically, things that add life to the party. After all, wedding receptions don’t always have to follow the same format.
Take your cue from Savannah, the bride’s little sister and maid of honor.
The tall, striking little sister was only ten years old when she gave an unforgettable number at her big sister’s wedding reception. Instead of delivering the typical speech that outlines what her sibling means to her, how happy she is to have a new big brother, and so forth, she decided to up her game and throw out a few bars.
And boy, did she come prepared. Before she began, the charming maid of honor faced the audience to introduce herself. She addressed them with such confidence that they couldn’t help but laugh and applaud at her boldness.
“You might want to get your cameras out to video this one.”
Typically, younger members of the wedding party need a bit of coaxing and prodding to carry out their roles, say a few nice words for the newlyweds, and generally participate in the festivities. Not Savannah.
Dressed in a gorgeous, blush dress, hair pulled back, the beautiful maid of honor exhibited no signs of stage fright. She readily and eagerly faced her audience with a disarming smile and prepared to give her speech.
Savannah’s rap performance began with anecdotes of what she presumed her big sister’s life was before she was born. The audience couldn’t help but laugh at Savannah’s lyrics.
The verses were clearly written in typical little sister fashion: affectionate, teasing, and playfully keeping the spotlight on herself.
Keeping up the flow of her speech, Savannah proceeded to narrate her thoughts on what would happen if her sister met someone from a different place and consequently moved far. It transitioned to relief and joy when she described how her wish came true: for her big sister to meet a boy right from their hometown.
It was definitely the most delightful maid of honor speech.
It’s a great way to express one’s appreciation and love for the happy couple, too. Not many people are comfortable with showing emotions, but not many can find a good workaround, too.
Savannah did, and her rap performance proved that a lot of time, effort, and creativity went into it.
We’re positive the newlyweds had a good laugh as they watched her performance. Thankfully, official wedding photographers and videographers captured this moment – it’s the type of video that the entire family can look back on laugh at.
Who knows? It might just become a surprise part of Savannah’s own wedding reception someday.
