Children don’t usually start taking dance classes until they are old enough to follow directions and listen well. Some little ones are lucky enough to slip on ballet shoes and dance at age two while other kiddos wait until they are preschool-aged to dance at a studio – and even longer to compete.
It’s always so endearing to watch a young girl bravely perform a solo at a dance competition. Most adults could not fathom standing on stage in front of a packed audience let alone dancing there, with all eyes staring intently, judging your every move.
After logging hours and hours of practice, perfecting every eight-count, it all passes by in a matter of minutes or however long the solo competition song happens to be.
One little girl whose routine was featured on the YouTube channel DancingWithYT has an amazing stage presence. Her smile never falters and she doesn’t seem to be nervous in the slightest.
With pink flowers adorning her hair that is pulled back on the sides, earrings glittering in the spotlight, this little girl strolls out onto the stage ready to perform a lyrical routine to the song “You’ll Be In My Heart,” which was made wildly popular by the Disney hit movie Tarzan. The song was originally recorded by artist Phil Collins.
Gabby Post is competing in the five-year-old lyrical category and ended up earning second place with her routine choreographed by Kaila May from Studio 55 Dance. Her quaint white dress trimmed in pink satin and decorated with pink flowers is an innocent dance outfit that looks beautiful under the bright lights.
She begins her routine seated on the ground, her back to the judges and arms wrapped around her knees. Her head is dropped down onto her knees. She rises to her knees when the music begins, dancing to a kid version of the emotional song “You’ll Be In My Heart”.
Gabby executes a beautiful turn with her toe strongly pointed, affixed to the inside of her knee. She spots perfectly as she spins.
Several leg extensions are executed throughout the routine, her leg strongly straightened and her back rod straight. Her technique is so good!
This spunky little girl even performs an aerial in the routine, which is surprising for such a young girl. She flips head over heels flawlessly and doesn’t miss a beat!
Gabby also turns with her toe anchored at her ankle and flips her foot up behind her head for the bow and arrow, clasping her ankle in her hands. At another point in her routine, she smoothly and gently kicks the back of her head while propped up in the plank position.
Her smile is adorable and radiates excitement while her youthful dance moves are terrific. She even sails in a split leap across the stage, toes strongly pointed and legs straight. She also possesses a pretty arabesque.
Watch Gabby’s routine in the video below and be prepared to be impressed. It’s no wonder she placed second in her category. She’s a very talented and enigmatic little girl!
