Growing up, especially as a young girl, is such a beautiful and amazing time to be alive. There are so many little rituals that take place, like watching your mother put makeup on in front of her vanity (and then her telling you that she has eyes on the back of her head when really she can just see you in the mirror), getting dressed up in adorable matching outfits for special events, and playing house with your friends and family.
It is actually pretty funny — when you are a young kid, it seems like everything you do and all of the “games” you play are just you getting excited to grow up. You want to copy your mother and everything she does, and you want to be a grown up just like her. You want to get your makeup done, you want to get your hair done, and you want to play dress up… And sometimes you will go to extreme lengths to do that.
We have all had moments where we have taken something from our mothers, whether it’s their makeup, phone, or clothing. And I can pretty much guarantee that we have all had a moment where we have seen an beautiful pair of their shoes laying around.
What does a little, daydreaming girl do when she comes across her mother’s fancy heels? Well, she tries them on of course. She tries them on so that she can be free, dance around, and act like a grown up (even though the little girl does not realize yet that being a grown up ain’t always so great!).
In this moment, it does not matter if the heels are a size 10. The child, who has much smaller feet, makes it work. It looks a tad bit ridiculous but again, the girl is unphased. In this moment, she feels invincible — like a true, beautiful adult!
And then shortly after the little girl steals her mother’s heels, her parents find out and catch her red-handed. But of course, they are not mad… They think it is adorable. It is an inevitable part of growing up, and it’s part of the fun for everyone. There is nothing as precious as watching your kid try to dance around in huge shoes and act more like you.
It is these moments — your child tapping around in big shoes or heading off to college or making new friends — that you simply do not want to miss as a parent.
That is why Heart & Stroke uploaded this video of this young child dancing in her mother’s shoes. Their goal is to not only raise awareness, but to envision healthy lives that are free of heart disease and strokes. A healthy life could look like this — being around to witness your child do something truly pure and precious. Any parent would agree that is a moment they would want to be around for.
“Life, we don’t want you to miss it,” is their slogan and they certainly did an excellent job communicating that with this cute clip.
