It’s always good to introduce children to new things. One of the best ways to do that is to put them in various sports and activities and see which ones they like best. One family decided to put their young daughter in taekwondo.

When it came time for her first lesson, she struggled a bit.

She just didn’t seem to understand what she was supposed to do. Her teacher tried to explain it to her, but she just doesn’t get it. At first, the teacher told her to step on the boards, but the girl didn’t do it.

The teacher demonstrated by tapping her foot on the floor. The little girl did the same instead of trying to break the board. The teacher got down and pointed to the board to show the little girl where to kick with her foot, but again, the little girl misunderstood and pointed to the board, as well.

Finally, the teacher got the point across, and the little girl stomped on the board with everything she had.

Although she fell and landed on the board with her bottom, the board broke, and she was thrilled. Her parents and the audience clapped and were all relieved that she finally figured out what she was supposed to be doing.

It took her a while to figure it out, but now that she knows that she has to do in class, she is unstoppable. Her parents better watch out; she will be busting through every board in the house. She might be small, but she clearly has something special. Now, she is hooked on taekwondo.

This little girl proves that you are never too young to learn something new.

Even though it might take a while to catch on, it’s always worth it.

If you are thinking about trying taekwondo for yourself or putting your child in classes, consider the many benefits of the activity. Fit and Me mentioned a few that may help make your decision easier. The site says:

“One of the things that we really like about Taekwondo is that it is a group activity. This is true both for you and for your children who may be taking a Taekwondo class. Humans are by nature gregarious creatures and that means that we don’t like to be alone, we are herd animals and that is a fact. Being alone, especially for extended periods of time is never fun and it can get quite depressing no doubt.”

It’s also great for kids who need to improve their focus and learn to work harder.

They can move through it as their own pace and build self-esteem in the process. Fit and Me added:

“Learning the various aspects of Taekwondo and perfecting them involves goal setting. You have to set a goal, of say, learning one specific strike, and you have to use self-discipline in order to meet that goal. Taekwondo does a good job at teaching you and your children that nothing in life is easy and that everything, every goal, which you set, requires a whole lot discipline to accomplish.”

If you are concerned about your child being bullied or if you think they may need to know how to defend themselves, taekwondo can help.

The site says:

“Taekwondo is a great martial art to practice, a martial art that might just come in handy in some rough situations. Of course, one of the main purposes of Taekwondo is to teach you various different ways of defending yourself. Obviously one of the first rules of Taekwondo is to only use it for sport, for sparring, or for self-defense, but never for offensive purposes.”

The little girl in this video seems to be headed in the right direction.

She may need a little more practice before she is ready to earn any belts. At least she is having fun, and that’s what matters. Maybe someday, she will be a taekwondo master.
