The bond between a mother and son is one that can never weaken, no matter how many miles separate the two. When this mom finally returned home from deployment, she decided to surprise her son in the greatest way possible. You won’t be able to watch this video without tearing up a bit.
McKinley Elementary School had just gotten their first mascot suit, when they found the perfect way to use it. One of their students, a young boy, missed his mother while she was away on deployment. When the school found out when she would return, they worked with her to plan the best surprise EVER.
The little boy, named Jake, sat at a lunch table with a group of his friends. The school had informed the students that they finally had an animal suit showing their school mascot – the jaguar. The kids knew that someone would be walking around in the suit, but they had no idea who would be inside.
Cheers broke out as the mascot walked around the lunch room. The person inside the suit greeted countless children, waving at them and high-fiving as many of them as possible. Finally the jaguar reached the table where Jake was sitting.
The jaguar sat down right across from him, waving excitedly. Trying to be funny, Jake offered up one of his friend’s snacks. He smiled mischievously at the camera as he handed over the bag that had been in the boy’s lunch box. But the mascot had other plans.
Jake laughed as the boy grabbed back his snack, still completely oblivious as to what was about to happen. As he faced toward the camera the mascot began to pull off it’s hood. What happened next was a total surprise to the boy.
As the jaguar head came off, Jake stared for a moment in pure disbelief. Then, without hesitation he screamed, “MOM!” as loudly as he could. The boy stood up and took off, running around the tables so he could give his mom a big hug.
The other students stared as they realized what was happening. Jake bounded into his mom’s arms, wrapping both of his around her big jaguar suit. This boy was so happy to finally be reunited with his mother.
As Jake’s mom picked him up and spun him around, the entire class began to shout “Awww!” Jake himself was almost in tears as his friends began to clap for the occasion.
The two stayed locked in a long embrace. They were so happy to be together again. Even when the hug was over, they made eye contact for only a brief moment before returning to the comfort of each other’s arms.
It was obvious from his reaction that Jake had missed his mom more than anything in the world. He was not one of those kids who are afraid to show their moms affection in public. Jake’s only thought was about how he could finally see hang out with his mom when he got home from school.
Many soldiers plan out special homecoming surprises, and this one was definitely worth the planning. It is so wonderful that Jake’s school was willing to get in on the surprise. We can only hope that all schools care this much about their students.
