Doing your own makeup is extremely fun, but itโs not always easy.
Sometimes we see things โ like the perfect winged eyeliner or perfect lined lip โ and we think, โoh, easy!โ But then we try to do it ourselves and, well, it wasnโt as seamless as we thought it would be.

There are always different kinds of looks we are trying to achieve. And thankfully, we have the internet to help us with that these days.
Now, whenever you want to try something, you can probably find someone who is kind enough to share their tips and tricks online so that women all over the world can figure fun new looks out on their own.

But when you get to a certain age, it can feel like you have to re-learn the way to do makeup all over again. As we age, our faces naturally change. Itโs totally normal! But it makes makeup application a confusing process, right when you thought you finally had it all figured out.
Margaret Manning is the Founder of Sixty and Me, a place where women over 60 go to be inspired.

Manning sat down with professional makeup artist Ariane Poole to chat about an issue โthat very few of us think about โ our aging lips.โ
In the video, Manning explains that as you grow older, your lips โ particularly your top lift โ begins to disappear. Poole then explains that itโs basically because of gravity.

Yes, their lips are actually getting smaller, but itโs more because the skin right above your lip begins to sag. Poole also explains that itโs not a lot of sagging โ only a tiny bit โ but itโs enough to make a difference.

Itโs all a natural part of life, so itโs no big deal and certainly nothing to be ashamed of! However, if youโre a 60+ women who is passionate about makeup, there is no harm in wanting to adjust your application technique to fit your evolving lips.

So as the two bond over their lips and the small changes they notice as they age, Poole begins to show Manning a few tips and tricks in order to make her lips look beautiful and luscious.

โFor every action thereโs an equal reaction so maybe thereโs something we couldโฆโ Poole jokes as she begins to break into a laugh.
Poole also explains that sometimes the color of your lips can actually fade. This is something that she explains she personally experiences, and even takes off her lipstick to show Manning.

โYou can use lip liners to match your lipstick if you want. You can also use lip liners that are a neutral sort of lip color,โ Poole says. โIโm not going to commend one shade because everyoneโs lip color is slightly different.โ
She goes on to explain that if someone has more blue in their lips, a coral color will appear pink on them. Different shades of lipstick look different on everyone, so you have to go with a shade that specifically works for you. Thatโs the beauty of makeup!

She also advises to choose a lip liner that is closest to your natural lip color. That way, you can swap the lipsticks around as you want.

Poole goes on to stress that when applying your lip liner, you must draw on the outer edge of your lips. Who wouldโve thought!
