Landlords take a lot of risks when opening their homes to complete strangers. Sometimes landlords get lucky with a nice cookie-cutter family who pays rent on time or they’ll get some bad apples who rarely pay bills on time and trash the house… It’s truly a gamble. But before you hand over your keys, there are some ways to sift through all the bad apples out there.
Better Safe Than Sorry
Some ways that you can find the perfect tenants include filling out a rental application so you’re able to contact previous landlords and see their source of income. Doing a background check on the eligible tenants also helps along with requiring a deposit before renting out your space. But even after all of that, some landlords don’t get very lucky.
Not So Lucky…
These landlords had a very unfortunate tenant experience and it might even make your skin crawl. The landlord Laura Arnett and her husband were shocked to see their house in shambles. The past tenants broke there lease early and left all kinds of stuff for the Arnett’s to clean up. Including a yard filled with dog poop AND 16 chickens that they left to die under the Arnett’s home.
Renting Gone Wrong
It’s understandable that the Arnett’s were disgusted by what these tenants left them to pick up. So they decided these selfish tenants weren’t going to get away with disrespecting their property. The Arnett’s found out where their old renters were living and dropped off a little surprise for them.
Knock Knock
Laura and her husband knocked and waited at their old tenants’ front door with piles of trash that the tenants left (yes even bags of dog poop)… When the old tenant finally answered the door she looked unamused while Laura asked,
“Do you know how bad you left our house?”
The woman stood there with no expression and nothing to say while the Arnett’s “gifted” her all of the trash she left.
Sweet Revenge
Laura poured out bags of trash onto this woman’s front doorstep (yes, even the bag of dog poop). Laura and her husband felt betrayed by this woman they “trusted” with their home while the woman just unapologetically glared at them. Laura even explained to the woman that they had to sell their “toys” that they worked hard for, to help fix there destroyed home.
Rude Awakenings
While Laura’s husband explained how he had to scoop the 16 dead chickens from underneath the house… The woman stood there with the same silent demeanor and little to say but the Arnett’s knew they couldn’t have these people get away with everything.
Pay Back
It must be infuriating to have trust in someone with something as special as your home and then to have that person completely take advantage of that and leave your home destroyed.
Teaching Lessons
Sometimes people need a little taste of their own medicine and Laura and her husband were definitely taught these awful tenants a lesson.
Hopefully, the Arnett’s have a lot more luck with new renters!
