If you’re a fan of competitive singing shows like “The Voice,” you know what kind of amazing talent you can hear from all over the world.
Now imagine that you’re watching three amazing singers, and not one of them is older than the age of 15.
Watching three kids duke it out on the Dutch program “The Voice Kids” is nothing short of a treat.
Maybe it’s because they’re so talented with each one bringing a totally unique performance to their part of the song.
Ayoub, Ieke, and Merel appeared on “The Voice Kids”. After a production audition and a blind audition, the three of them came together for “The Battle” round. During this audition, they sang together, each of them taking a few lines of McLachlan’s classic at a time.
Ieke Booij began the song, her deep husky vocals perfectly suited to the song.
But it was fascinating to see how the other two singers changed the performance. Each of the three had a totally unique style that was beautiful in its own way.
“Spend all your time waiting for that second chance,” she sang. “For a break that would make it okay.”
Then it was already off to the next singer, Merel van den Boogaard.
Merel’s voice was softer and sweeter than Ieke’s, but before long, it was clear that it had a power no one had anticipated.
In fact, as the song went on and the three kids gained confidence, it was clear they were incredibly talented. There was no doubt that each one of them deserved to be on that stage, competing for a chance at the title.
The third performer and only boy, Ayoub, took over with a self-assurance that came through in his voice.
His vocals were strong, distinct, and controlled. It was extremely impressive, considering that he’s only 14-years-old. He sang with the maturity of a much older performer.
The three of them alternated steadily throughout the song, only singing together for the final line. Their performance brought tears to the eyes of Judge Marco Borsato.
The three kids are each pursuing a career in music.
After their performance of “Angel,” Ayoub was selected to be on Borsato’s team, reaching musical coaching. Eventually, he went on to win the entire season, becoming the champion of season three of “The Voice Kids.”
Nowadays, Ayoub is still singing.
His Instagram account has 31,000 followers, and he regularly posts updates about his performances — including one at La Femme du Maghreb.
“What a great weekend I had!” he posted on Instagram. “Performed at Europe’s largest Moroccan fashion show @la_femme_du_maghreb …beautiful models, walked the catwalk, collaborated with a great team.”
Both Ieke and Merel also have growing careers as singers. Ieke studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg. While each of them still has a long career ahead of them, they’ll always be remembered for their first performances on “The Voice Kids.”
