If you want to get your point across, sometimes you need to think outside the box. For one middle schooler running for Student Body President – this meant huge paper cowboy hats, boots, and a song called “Elvira.”
The results? A hilarious performance that had everyone in the auditorium cracking up.
For anyone running for office, it’s important to make a connection with voters if you want to win. But when it’s junior high it requires a little extra creativity.
Walker wanted to become their school’s Student Body President. So, he came up with a plan to help win over his classmates using something everyone loves – humor!
What happened to the days where you could promise soda in the drinking fountains?
One day, the school organized an assembly where the students running for office could have a chance to try and gain voters. When it was Walker’s turn, he first took the mic and addressed his classmates.
However, instead of giving a long speech he spoke about how “actions speak louder than words.” And to help him get his point across he had invited some “special guests”…
Say hello to The Elvira Three.
Three “cowboys” came walking onto the court wearing gigantic hats made from poster boards. They had their “hands” in their pockets while the country song “Elvira” began to play in the background.
Everyone chuckled at the sight. They’re costumes where eye holes are cut into the oversized hats, and bodies are created to make the cowboys look tiny. The result is hysterical.
The trio performed line dancing moves, shuffling along the gymnasium floor. It’s easy to tell though that getting around in the costumes probably isn’t easy.
On the dancers’ hats are printed letters, and when they turn their message is revealed. Together they spell out the candidate Walker’s name, of course!
Every show needs a special highlight – and the cowboys did not disappoint. During The Oak Ridge Boy’s rendition of “Elvira,” it reaches a point where they sing a “Giddy up” segment.
The performers turn away from the audience and shake their stuffed backsides to the lyrics. The sight sends all the students into a roar of laughter.
As it turns out, one of The Elvira Three was actually Walker’s sister. Boys and Girls Hairstyles (who posted the video) said:
“This video is for a little fun. It has nothing to do with hair, but one of our staple hair gals, Ashlin, Dances in a school assembly for her brother Walker. It is so funny, we thought we would share.”
After some more scooting around to the country classic, the dancers finally give a final bow. Everyone screams and cheers in response. It’s quite a fun performance, don’t you think?
Walker takes the microphone at the end for a couple of final lines. The real question is – did he end up becoming his junior high’s Student Body President?
Why yes he did! Boys and Girls Hairstyles provided everyone the great news on their YouTube channel.
It’s unknown whether it was The Elvira Three act or Walker just being himself that helped win over his classmates. But, you have to admit – it certainly was a pretty brilliant way to connect with everyone.
