Celebrities are some of the most beautiful people in the world – and as a result their looks are constantly being scrutinized by society. Magazines, media outlets, and even individual citizens criticize celebrities based on their looks without regard for their mental health. This star is speaking out against body shaming.
Kelly Clarkson is a proud mother of four – two children of her own, and two stepchildren whose father is her husband, Brandon Blackstock. She is a Grammy winner who had moved over 25 million records and who is currently working on her latest album, Meaning of Life. Needless to say, this star has done a lot to prove herself as a strong, successful woman.
In spite of her incredible accomplishments, some people have been anything but supportive toward the celebrity. Kelly finally flooded with frustration because of others judging her for her weight. The 35 year old is tired of a society that is focused on the wrong thing.
“I had dinner with [Miranda Lambert], and we were talking about that. She was like, ‘Should I gain? Should I lose?’ But no one actually cares about your health. They just care about aesthetics.”
With growing children to think about, Kelly can’t afford to sacrifice her mental health to appease the crowd.
“It’s when I’m fat that I’m happy,” the star shared in an interview with Redbook Magazine. “People think, Oh, there’s something wrong with her. She’s putting on weight. I’m like, ‘Oh no! I’m sorry, but that represents happiness in my emotional world.'”
Kelly explained to her fans the importance of listening to your own body, rather than trying to look like someone else’s standard of beauty.
“For me, when I’m skinny is usually when I’m not doing well. If you gauge your life on what other people think, you’re going to be in a constant state of panic trying to please everyone.”
This celebrity has been in the spotlight for years now, and she is all too familiar with the pressures society can impose on an individual. For her, the most important thing is being true to herself and feeling good in her own skin.
Kelly closed her statement with some advice for her fans to feel more free being themselves: “People should just concentrate on their own lives and their own health and their own happiness, and whatever that looks like for you, be happy with it.”
In a world where almost every image is enhanced with filters and photoshop, it can be harder and harder to be confident just being you. It is inspiring to see that a star like Kelley has been able to prioritize her mental health despite the peer pressure prevalent in Hollywood.
