Once in awhile we hear a voice that stops us in our tracks. Our jaws drop and our eyes pop, leaving us speechless.
We wonder who they are and where they came from. Then we think, what is it that we can do to be a part of that extremely talented person’s life.
These are just some of the thoughts that ran through the judge’s minds as well as the audience’s after hearing Karise Eden’s exceptionally, out of this world’s, voice.
She truly is a talent that you must hear to believe.
At just 19-years-old, the New South Wales-born singer belted out an emotionally-charged performance of the very adult song, “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” by the incredibly talented, James Brown.
No doubt the song has been covered at karaoke gatherings and numerous competition shows across the globe but we can guarantee nobody has performed the song as passionately as Eden.
“Oh God!” yells Urban just before all four judges hit their button.
Performing her rendition of the song on The Voice Australia, all four judges smash their buzzer at the exact same time, turning their chairs around.
This was less than 15 seconds into her performance.
Seal, Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem, and Joel Madden all cannot believe their ears.
She sports a floral dress and high boots. The voice that comes out of the young lady is not what one might have expected.
But by the first note, it was obvious that she is something special. There is no hesitation as she hit her runs with ease.
Eden can’t help but show her enthusiasm and shock as all four judges look on in disbelief. Still, she doesn’t miss a note. Her family jumps with excitement backstage.
“Massive deal!” host, Darren McMullen, exclaims.
Eden has the entire audience and the judges on their feet.
Seal watches in awe.
Overwhelmed by the support, Eden takes a moment to compose herself as if settling in with the reality of becoming a star.
All of the judges watch in silence and make faces as she strikes certain notes full of emotion.
Eden’s family watch from backstage, holding back tears. Clearly, they are full of joy and pride in what Eden is accomplishing right before their eyes and the eyes of millions.
By the end, she receives a standing ovation from both the audience and the judges. It’s a moment that is gratifying to see as it’s apparent how humble and genuinely happy Eden is.
When it came time to choose a coach, Eden chose to work with Seal.
The two would go on to create memorable performances such as “Hallelujah,” “Landslide,” and “Back to Black.”
Fans and critics have likened her to Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, and Amy Winehouse. Her voice is full of soul and emotion that not many can aspire to.
Eden made history by becoming the first winner on the show.
After leaving the scene to care for her family, she’s returned with her first album, “Born to Fight” released last year.
The title was inspired by her resilience to survive and prosper. She told Who:
“… I’m very resilient, but since The Voice I have shared my vulnerabilities and a lot of my fans connected to that, so it was important to me to send a positive message about rising out of the pain.”
